James Madison O'Neal,
111 in matrimony
Saturday, September 6,
1980 at 7 o’clock in the
evening.
The Rev. Daniel Ariail
officiated at the double
ring wedding ceremony.
Mrs. Emmit Akin
presented appropriate
musical selections on the
organ.
The bride is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Henry Dawkins of
Perry and the groom’s
parents are Mr. and Mrs.
James Madison O’Neal,
Jr. of Perry.
Escorted to the altar by
her father and given in
marriage by her parents,
the bride was lovely in
her white gown of silk
organza over silk taffeta
styled with long full
bishop sleeves, and V
neckline with French
Chantilly lace. The three

Perry, the groom’s sister
Suzy O’Neal of Athens
and Cathy Smith of
Perry. They were
dressed alike in mint
green organza gowns,
accented with ruffles and
flounces.
Mr. O’Neal stood with
his son as best man. The
groomsmen were
Richard Carl Brown of
Auburn. Alabama, the
bride’s brother Robbie
Dawkins of Laurens,
South Carolina, Paul
Mack of Auburn,
Alabama, Ben H.
Newberry, Jr. and the
groom’s brother
William Hardy O’Neal,
both of Perry.

The bride’s parents
hosted a reception im
mediately following the
ceremony in the
fellowship hall of the
church. Mrs. W.E.
Beckam, Jr., Mrs.
Douglas Brown and Mrs.
Joseph Kennedy greeted
the guests.
Mrs. L.S. Smith and
Mrs. Ronald Fauconniere
cut and served the
wedding cake. Miss Gay
Thompson and Miss
Diane Marler served
punch. Miss Nancy
Geiger assisted the
guests at the bridal
registry table.
Following the church
rehearsal on Friday
evening, the groom’s
parents Mr. and Mrs.
James M. O’Neal, Jr.
entertained members of
the wedding party,
relatives and out-of-town
guests at a dinner party
at the Houston Lake
Country Club. The U
shaped table held a large
arrangement of yellow
and white daisies flanked
by silver candelabra with
lighted green tapers.
Smaller arrangements of
daisies in silver compotes
completed the table
decorations. The groom
chose this occasion to
present gifts to the
groomsmen.
The bridesmaids’
luncheon was given
Saturday, September 6 by
Mrs. Douglas Brown,
Mrs. William Rhodar
rner, and Mrs. M.R.
Dawkins of Greenwood,
South Carolina, aunt of
the bride. The bride-elect
was given a set of place
mats with matching
napkins. Miss Dawkins
presented gifts to each of
her attendants.
On Saturday, Sep
tember 6, the wedding
party and out-of-town
guests were entertained
at a buffet luncheon by
Mr. and Mrs. Ed
Beckam, Mr. and Mrs,
Billy Beckham, Mr. and
Mrs. Jim Geiger, Mr. and
Mrs. Allen Pritchett, Jr.,
Mr. and Mrs. Joe P.
Davis at the Ed Beckham
home on Beckham Circle.

Miss Hayzlett is the
daughter also of SMSGT
(Ret.) William F.
Hayzlett of Rapid City,
South Dakota. She is the
granddaughter of Mrs.
Thelma College of Largo,
Florida, the late William
M. Mangus, and the late
Mr. and Mrs. Miner L.
Hayzlett of Charleston,
West Virginia. She was a
1980 First Honor
graduate of Perry High
School, where she was
president of VICA Club.

fellowship hall.

ceremony was performed
by the Rev. Dan Ariail.
The bride is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Willis H. Graham of
Perry and she was given
in marriage by her
father. The groom is the
son of Mr. and Mrs.
William E. Sawyer of
Warner Robins.
Following the 11 a.m.
ceremony, luncheon was
served at the home of the
bride’s parents on Lake
Joy Road in Perry.
The couple will make
their home on Leisure
Lake Dr. in Warner
Robins.

at the Pilot Club’s Fiddlers and Peddlers Bazaar and Flea Market
Saturday at the National Guard Armory. The Bazaar begins at 9 a.m. and
will continue through the day until 9 p.m.
Sampson Addresses
Local AARP Meeting
Dr. Bruce Sampson, a
new member of the Perry
Houston County Hospital
Staff, was the guest
speaker at the monthly
meeting of Perry chapter
No. 1744 of the American
Association of Retired
Persons, held November
11, at the agricultural
building. Moody Mulkey,
president, presided.
Speaking on the sub
ject, “Risk Factors
Associated With Car
diovascular Diseases’’,
Dr. Sampson named
cholesterol, blood
pressure, and smoking as
the prime causes along
with obesity, age,
heredity, and type A
personality as con
tributing factors to cir
culatory problems. To
illustrate his talk, Dr.
Sampson used slides.
The speaker and his
wife, Sallie, were in
troduced by Ken LeVan.

nounce the birth of their
daughter, Ellen Suzanne,
born November 11, 1980
at the Houston County
Hospital, Warner Robins.
She weighed eight
pounds, thirteen one-half
ounces at birth.
Ellen is welcomed by
sisters, Rebecca and
Bethany and grand
parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Walker spent a few days
last week at Jekyll Island
attending a farm
equipment meeting.

During the business
session, the chapter voted
against the proposition to
increase the state sales
tax in Houston County
from three to four cents.
Mrs. Ruby C. Hodges,
legislative chairman,
reported the passage of
local amendments
numbers 94 and 95 in the
general election
November 4. Both of
these concern increase of
homestead exemption
from $4,000 to SB,OOO and
allowable income from
$6,000 to SIO,OOO, ex
cluding social security
and retirement funds for
persons 62 years of age or
older. No. 94 applies to
the City of Perry and No.
95 to Houston County
taxes. Application must
be made at Court House
and City Hall next

laws concerning older
citizens, Mrs. Hodges
gave emphasis to the
defeat of the proposal to
tax Social Security
benefits and the defeat
also to the proposal to
impose with, holding tax
on interest and dividend
income.
Mrs. Irene Kimball,
chairman of committee
on nominations, reported
a partial slate of officers
to be voted on in
December. The complete
list will be published next
month after the election.
