Also stolen were a small
number of inexpensive
rings, Webb said.
The total value of the
stolen items amounts to
about $2,000, said Webb.
Entry was made into
the store after an air
conditioning unit was
removed to make a hole
in the rear wall. The
electric meter was
removed from the outside
rear wall. Web said a
light had been left on in
the store, and the
electric meter was ap
parently removed in
order to provide darkness
for the burglary.
Webb said the store
was equipped with a
burglar alarm device, but
“if it went off, nobody
knows,” he said. When
the electric meter was
replaced Monday mor
ning. the siren im
mediately began soun
ding, he said.
Webb said the burglary
probably occurred
after 5:30 a.m. Monday.
Monday night, a
burglary occurred at the
Racetrac service
station,and nine cases of
oil and four cases of soft
drinks were reportedly
stolen.
The items were stolen
from the storage room at
the station, after the
staple portion of a
padlock was pried off the
door. Entry was at
tempted into the office by
the same means, but was
prevented by a deadbolt
lock on the door.
