amendments to the
Senate version. The
federal charter
legislation was received
by the White House on
November 26, where it is
expected to be signed into
law by the President in
the immediate future.
Praising the bill’s
passage Brinkley said,
“For more than thirty -
five years the Gold Star
Wives of America
widows whose husbands
have died while a
member of the Armed
Forces of our country --
have worked tirelessly,
and without pay, to
provide understanding
and financial assistance
to other widows and
children of deceased
American servicemen.”
“For too long they have
been repeatedly hindered
from giving maximum
assistance to new widows
and their children solely
because they have not
been recognized as a
reputable organization.
The granting of this
federal charter will ~
once and for all -- provide
the official recognition
which is so vital to
carrying out the Gold
Star Wives of America’s
greatest goal -- helping
others like themselves to
more easily bear the
heavy burdens of their
loss.”
Approxvately thirty
chapters of Gold Star
Wives of America exist
throughout the country
with two Columbus,
Georgia, chapters -- one
the largest in the nation -
and additional chapters
in Atlanta and Albany.

Thought for the week:
LEARN to be as the angel
who could descend
among the miseries of
Bethesda without losing
his heavenly purity or his
perfect happiness. Gain
healing from troubled
waters. Make up your
mind to the prospect of
sustaining a certain
measure of pain and
trouble in your passage
through life. By the
blessing of God this will
prepare you for it.
Perry Chapel A.M.E.
Church cordially invite
you to worship with them
at 11:30 a.m. the 2nd
Sunday in December.
Rev. Johnson, pastor.
We want to thank the
Bank of Perry and their
staff for being such
gracious hosts and
hostesses at their "Dress
A Doll" party last Sunday
to make the heart of some
little girl happy.
Ms. Jenny Whitest of
Perry has been a patient
in the Houston County
Hospital at Warner
Robins and she would like
all of the people to know
how she appreciated their
kindness.
