By MELODY BACAS
Staff Writer
Thirty-one kids and three adults
set out for Washington D.C.
Wednesday afternoon. The trip is an
event planned by two Perry Middle
School teachers.
"It's not a school sponsored
thing," said teacher Sue Lott. "It's a
trip Mrs. Shelton and I cooked up
for all of die students we teach."
Lott said the trip is meant to
show students places and things
they've discussed in their science
and history classes.
The staff of the Houston Drug Action
Council held an open house Thursday
to celebrate moving into their new
building at 2762 Watson Boulevard.

The course was written and
compiled by Mary Ellen Blackburn,
Extension home furnishings spe

The group will slay until Sun
day. This is the first lime Perry
Middle teachers have done anything
like this without school
sponsorship, Loll said.
"It may be the last," she said,
joking.
Lott said they have quite a bit of

Capitol, the While House, the Ford
Theater, the Smithsonian Institu

The young people will also visit
with U.S. Sen. Sam Nunn and
Third District Rep. Richard Ray,
Loll said.
"We'll be very busy," she said.
The one concern some parents
talked about while sending their
kids off was how the adults were
going to keep an eye on the stu
dents during the night while every
one was supposedly sleeping.
Lott said that isn’t a concern for
her. She said the hotel has someone
who will walk the halls at night,
every night.
