Man escapes unhurt from fire

A Perry man escaped unhurt
Saturday evening, after a fire broke
out in his house while he was
sleeping.
Samuel Peavy, of 1019 King
Blvd., was asleep in a back bed
room when curtains in the living
room caught fire, probably from a
short circuit in a wire to a window
air conditioner, according to Fire
Liquor is taken in Omni burglary
Burglars made away with several
half gallons of liquor Saturday
night, after breaking out the front
glass at the Omni Package Store on
Hodges Boulevard. Police arc
investigating.
A Jones Circle resident reported
5650 damage done to a satellite
dish Friday morning.
A burglary was reported at an
Elko Road residence Saturday after
noon. A VCR and scanner were
taken but later recovered, but a
telephone valued at S2OO was not
recovered.
Police were called to the scene
of a domestic disturbance on Star
buck Drive Friday night.
A license plate was reported
stolen from a tractor-trailer muck at
CR and Dell s Gulf station on Sam
Nunn Boulevard Sunday.
ASH gas drive-off was reported
at the Sing station on Main Street
Friday morning.
A S4O theft was reported at Cir
cle K grocery 7 on Ball Street Thurs
day.
Police investigated a domestic
dispute at the King Villas Apart
ments Saturday morning.
Harassing phone calls were re
ported at the Village Pawn Shop on
Marshallvillc Highway Sunday
morning.
Police found an abandoned 1981
Oldsmobilc Cutlass, Georgia li
cense RBS-880, in the middle of
the roadway on Cathy Street Satur
day morning.
A Florida rental car was reported
damaged while parked at the Days
Inn on Valley Drive Saturday
night,
Harassing phone calls were re
ported at a Moreland Avenue resi
dence Monday.

and eased open the door to the hall
way. only to find it already super
charged with smoke and flame,
Hamlin said, but he was able to
exit the house through a rear win
dow.
Fifteen Perry firefighters re
sponded to the call, which came in
at 7:38 p.m.

said.
He said the fire was put out in
only a few minutes, but the de
partment remained on the scene for
almost an hour and a half evacuat
ing smoke and making sure the hot
spots were out.
Hamlin said the living room,
kitchen and hall suffered heavy fire
damage, while the nest of the house
received heavy smoke damage.
