"We had a good time and everything went real smooth." The drama team performed the musical "Live It To the Max!" in churches in the various towns, be sides doing a little bit of sight-see ing. Those youth who went are Jen nifer Nunn, Amy Fincher, Meredith Pierce, Brandon Small, Morgan Baird, Candler Budd, Kelly Cole man, Ann Branncn, Jennifer Davis, Jeremy Wilson, Dawn Sayre, Dawn Waites, Cynthia Ross, Angela Goodwin, Emily Mathis, Melanie Moore, Alyssa Ekcy, Weston Ekcy, Keith Pace, Ashley Fincher, Thad Hawk and Heather Wilder. Quartet slates area reunion Memories from 50 years ago will be recalled when 16 surviving members of the Smile-A-While Quartet gather in Macon on July 6. Marking their arrival in Georgia in 1939, the popular gospel quartet, their wives, and widows of several deceased members will hold a three day reunion at the Holiday Inn at I -475 and U.S. 80 in Macon. From 1939 to 1954 the quartet sang twice daily on WMAZ Radio. Early in 1940 an audience check re vealed a listening audience in six teen slates and islands of the At lantic. In April of that year, the Smile-A-While quartet sang to the largest paid audience ever assembled in the Macon City Auditorium. According to one of the original members, thirty-eight men were with the quartet during its fifteen years on WMAZ. Lynn Utley, whose father, "Deacon" Utley man aged the group, says efforts to lo cate these men have revealed that fourteen have died; another four could not be located. Besides "Deacon" Utley and Ho race Floyd of the original group, both of whom are deceased, Morgan Paul will be unable to attend be cause of illness. The original bass, Arvin Burrow, and Lynn Utley, who was pianist for the quartet, both will be participating. Utley says the highlight of the three-day reunion will be a public concert at the Macon City Audi torium on July 7. Beginning at 7:30, the concert will feature three full quartets from the former mem bers, and a chorus of sixteen voices. Also appearing will be the Mimbs Family of Dublin and The Dixie Rhythm Singers of Rochelle. Advance tickets for the concert are S 6 and may be purchased at the Christian Book Stores in Perry and Warner Robins. Admission at the door will be $7, Utley said. Figures high for sex virus A statewide epidemic of the sex ually transmitted HPV virus affects as many as 30 to 35 percent of sexually active young female Geor gians, according to doctors at At lanta's Institute for Gynecologic Oncology. Drs. Benedict Bcnigno and Matthew O. Burrell of the institute feel this rapidly spreading disease has been underreported because no fatalities have been attributed to it. "While HPV itself is not fatal, the virus can lead to cervical cancer from which more die each year than AIDS," Dr. Burrell says. The doctors blame the epidemic on sexual promiscuity and point out that no segment of the teenager young woman population is im mune to it. "We sec the HPV in prostitutes as well as in successful career women and students from exclusive schools," Dr. Bcnigno said. This is primarily a women's disease and men who contract it have much milder cases, the doctors say. It is virtually impossible to eradicate the HPV virus, but the potentially dire repercussions can be avoided if iLs presence is detected by screening with space-age technol ogy and treated early enough. The group in front of Niagara Falls, Canada .. .They did stop for a scenic tour in between performances Raincoats were a must from this angle of the falls ...A little mist never hurt anyone though The youth group stopped at Churchhill Downs, Ky. ...This is the home of the Kentucky Derby 'Personal flair,' from Page 1C husband's company. The four-bedroom, three-bath room home is furnished w ith all of the Halls things from their other home. That includes pictures they've taken and lots of airplane memorabilia. Two things to note are the coffee table and the Indian needlework picture on the wall. "Jerry's mother did that," Mrs. Hall said, pointing to the picture. "Jerry is one-quarter Cherokee." On the coffee table is giant compass that was once used on ships to navigate. "It's made of frosted glass so v^®9B#®i»-, v■ '^Ls.• '■*' The bannister has a grand livingroom view ...This room looks even bigger with the cathedral ceiling they could draw on it. We always keep it pointing north," she said. Mrs. Hall said the outside of the house is cedar with a scaler on it to keep the natural color. There arc all hardwoods inside, she said. One might think it would be difficult to heat and cool a large house with high ceilings, but Hall said it's not. They are using heat pumps, she said. Mrs. Hall they've put a lot of work into getting the house they way they want it. From the looks of it, they’ve succeeded.
