Camp" at Robins Air Force Base.
Some said they were even
enjoying it.
The camp includes rising cadets
from PHS, Norlhside and Warner
Robins High Schools. The week
focuses on learning leadership tech
niques and responsibility, according
to advisor Chief Master Sgt.
Johnny Barton.
But sometimes that involves a
lot of hard work which isn't much
fun, he said.
"The cadets are doing well. The
toughest day was the second day,"
he said.
"1 had some say they would ride
on a bicycle back to Perry if they
could gel one," Barton said with a
laugh.
The cadets’ day starts with a 4-
milc run at 6 a.m. around the lake.
Then there’s formation, breakfast,
room check and inspection. After
drill practice, cadets go for class
room study, lunch and more study.
The evening hours from 6 p.m.
to 10 p.m. belong to the cadets.
The can swim, talk and basically
have fun during that lime.
"The big thing is that we keep
them busy from 6 a.m. to night,"
Barton said.
One thing that has changed this
year at the camp is that older cadets
are "cadrd." Those arc commanding
officers. The cadrd arc responsible
for keeping other cadets in line, ad
vising them and encouraging them
when necessary, Barton said.
The whole idea behind the cadrd
is to teach both how to take on re
sponsibility and follow it, he said.
Most cadets like Duane Sim
mons and James Earhart said they
know the camp will help them in

"It's fun," Simmons said. "I've
learned a lot of things about how to
be a leader."
Earhart said, "I thought it would
be a lot harder than what it is.”
Then again, Earhart started run
ning a month ago in order to do
well this week. He runs seven
miles a day, he said.
"I would recommend it to every
one who can come," he said.
The two said they had to say
something about the cadres.
"They're OK, sometimes,"
Simmons said.
Earhart said, "From 6 at night
until 10, they're decent people. But
at 5:45 in the morning, it's a
different story."
The cadnSs said they don't mind
the cadets getting aggravated with
them sometimes. There are benefits
to being a leader, they said. Benefits
the cadets don't have.
