Flood area meeting set The Federal Emergency Man agement Agency (FEMA) has completed a detailed study of flood areas in Houston County, The study was developed as part of the county’s involvement in the National Flood Insurance Program. All persons interested in the completion of the flood insurance study are invited to attend a public meeting on Monday, July 24, at 10 a.m. The meeting will be held in the county commission meeting room in the County Annex Build ing, 200 Carl Vinson Parkway, Warner Robins. A FEMA representative will discuss the results of the flood in surance study and outline specific actions needed to be taken by the local government in order to con tinue eligibility in the in the Na tional Flood Insurance Program. According to Glenn C. Woodard Jr., chief of FEMA’s natural and technological hazards division in Atlanta, the purpose of the study is to examine and evaluate flood haz ard areas which arc developed or which arc likely to be developed and to determine flood elevations for those areas. Flood elevations will be used by the county to carry out flood plain management objectives of the na tional insurance program. The elevations also will be used as the basis for determining the ap propriate flood insurance premium rales applicable to be used for addi tional amounts of insurance on ex isting building and contents.
