sponsoring a blood drive at the Houston Mall from 1 to 6:30 pm.

The Exchange Club will hold it weekly meeting at the Holiday Inn

Monday April 9
The Planning Commission will meet at 6 pm at the Public Works
Department.
The Rotary Club will meet at noon at the New Perry Hotel
Tuesday April 10
The Recreation Commission will meet at 7:30 pm in the
Conference Room.
The Kiwanis Club will hold its weekly meeting at the New Perry
Hotel at 1 pm.
The Convention and Visitors Bureau will meet at 2:30 pm in
the Conference Room in City Hall
Wednesday April 11
The Houston County Retired Teacher's Association meets at
11:30 am at the Holiday Inn in Warner Robins.
Gen. Daniel Stewart Chapter UDC meet at 3:45 at (member's
homes).
Thursday April 12
The Houston County Public Library Board will meet at 7:30
pm at the Perry Public Library.
The Exchange Club will hold its weekly meeting at the Holiday Inn

The Perry Wilderness Society will meet at 7:30 pm at the Perry
United Methodist Church.
The Houston County Public Library board meeting will be at
7:30 p.m. at the Perry Public Library.
Friday April 20

Rosa Colley Aspinwall
Waycross - Rosa Colley Aspinwall, 76, of 510 Bay Street died March
31 at her residence.
Services were held April 2 at the Blackshear First Baptist Church,
where she was a member. Burial was held at the church’s cemetery. The
Rev. O.J. Graham officiated.
Aspinwall was a native of Clinch County. She was a former resident
of Pierce County and Jacksonville, Fla. before moving to Waycross a few
months ago.
Survivors included a daughter, Janet Stollz of Orlando, Fla.; three
sons, Ralph Aspinwall of Lynn Haven, Fla., James B. Aspinwail of
Riverton, Wyo., and Jerold M. Aspinwall of Big Pine Key, Fla.; two
sisters. Hazel Aspinwall of Eastman and Frances Cotton of Perry; a
brother, Tommy Colley of Ocala, Fla.; six grandchildren; and four great
grandchildren.
Pearson Funeral Home in Blackshear handled the arrangements.
Nancy Young Law
Perry - Nancy Young Law, 31, of Highway 341 South died April 2 in
a Macon Hospital.
Services were held April 3 in the Marshallville Baptist Church. Burial
was held in the Marshallville Cemetery. The Revs. Kenny Thompson and
Wesley Jones officiated.
Law was a native of Rcyonlds and has lived in Perry for the past 10
years. She was the manager of commercial printing for The Perry Times
and attended Macon College.
Survivors included her husband, Ricky L. Law; a daughter, Christen
Law of Perry; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James H. Young of Reynolds; a
sister, Lynn Tennille of Newton; and two brothers, Harold Young of
Orlando, Fla., and Steve Young of Reynolds.
Watson-Hunt Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Happy Ist Birthday!
Caitlin Arae Bennett celebrated
her first birthday March 20.
She is the daughter of Bill and
Teresa Bennett of Perry.

He attended Mercer University and
the University of Georgia at
Athens.
Thomson worked for six years
as the county building inspector.
He also served as secretary of the
Houston County Planning and
Zoning Commission for six years.
He lives in Perry with his wife,

her first birthday on April 4th.
She is the daughter of Damelyn
and Johnny Willis.
She is the great-granddaughter of
Mary Frederick of Perry.
Chris, and sons Larry Jr., 11 and
Jacob, 8.
Thomson is an active member
of the First Baptist Church. He is a
Sunday School teacher and choir
member.
A Democrat, Thomson is a
fiscal conservative.
Westfield PTA produces cookbook

Westfield Parent Teacher
Association (WPTA) is now selling
their new cookbooks.
The cookbook, entitled 'A Taste
of Westfield,' is a compilation of
recipes submitted by the parents,
students and teachers at Westfield.
The WPTA is selling the books
to raise funds for improvements to
the school. The money will be used
for whatever is needed, new com
puters, banquets or media materials.
Cindy Davidson and Nancy
Evans, co-chairpersons for the pro
ject, spent many hours pulling this
book together.
They started in the fall, asking
for recipes from students and teach
ers.
The women then had to edit and
read through every recipe submitted.
They had to differentiate between
similar recipes or recipes of the
same name with variations of in
gredients.
In the end they printed 731
recipes.

Betty Raines presents program to Kiwanians

Betty Raines, services director
for the Older Americans Centers
(OAC), was the guest speaker
Tuesday at the Perry Kiwanis
Club’s regular meeting.
Raines told Kiwanians she is the
problem-shooter in a seven-county
area and explained what the OAC
program is all abouL
Raines talked about the Nosey
Neighbor program, which has
recently started in Macon in
response to several attacks on
elderly citizens. She said everyone

The recipes were sorted by cate
gory and sent to Taylor County
Printing for typesetting. Then the
recipes had to be proofread again.
After all that they were bound and
ready to sell.
The cookbook is divided into
several sections including Breads,
Appetizers, Salads, Main Dishes,
Vegetables, Candy & Cookies,
Desserts and Miscellaneous.
Miscellaneous includes a variety
of jams, jellies, breakfast foods,
sauces and other delights.
The WPTA will introduce the
cookbook to the citizens of Perry
with a tasting booth in downtown
Perry during the Dogwood Festival
on Saturday.
Some samples of the recipes will
be there for the public to try.
Cookbooks will also be on sale at
the same time.
The WPTA will also sell cook
books at the IDAKA club arts and
craft show on Saturday at the Ar
mory.

Moore is
top student
Mary Moore has been named
Perry high School's "Student of the
Week."
Mary was nominated out of the
English department.
Mary is an active member of Jr.
Civitans, Student Council,
National Honor Society and Golf
Team.
Mary is the daughter of John and
Audrie Moore of Perry.
Program. The program is designed
to contact the elderly every day by
phone at a specific time. If the
person does not answer, then
someone will go check on the
person, she said.
She also mentioned that "E-911
would save an unbelievable amount
of lives in Houston County."
Raines gave her thanks to the
club for its continued support in the
OAC center and said, "Anything the
Perry Kiwanis Club does, is done
right."

Jim Soles
Soles is
top teacher
Jim Soles has been named
"Educator of the Week" at Perry
High School.
Soles is a math teacher at Perry
High.
Soles began teaching at Perry
High in 1967. He coached the boys
tennis team to a state championship
in 1969. He also coached the boys
baseball team to a region
championship in 1982.
He and his wife, Lori, have one
son, Joe.
Reese, president of the local
Kiwanis Club, announced the six
members in the club who are
celebrating birthdays in April. They
are Jim Geiger, Jim Worrall, Ed
Beckham, George Curtis, Foster
Rhodes, and William Barfield.
Reese explained there will not be
a pancake breakfast on April 7 as
previously planned because the
Agriculture Building was reserved
by another group.
Reese did say the club would be
having a pancake breakfast for the
Fly-In scheduled for April 28.
