Here's an overview of several
fast-growing trees to consider
Several folks have asked me
recently about some fast growing
trees for their yard. Since it is still
tree planting time, I prepared this
article for your benefit.
Shade trees arc versatile parts
of our landscape. In addition to
providing the obvious relief from
the summer sun, shade trees offer
many other benefits. Properly
spaced trees can channel summer
breezes to desired locations, add
beauty to the landscape by offering
a wide range of forms, textures, and
colors, help define outdoor space,
frame view, add to the value of our
homes and even affect our moods.
United Methodist Women open
with "The Joy of Resurrection"
The United Methodist Women of
the Perry United Methodist Church
held its monthly general meeting
on April 2. President Elaine Wright
opened the meeting with scripture
and a poem entitled, "The Joy of
Resurrection."
Wright reminded members to
continue saving Campbell soup
labels for Vashli Children's Home
and Pam Pierce announced that

Joyce B. Jones
Jones earns
'Educator' nod
Joyce B. Jones, an English
teacher at Perry High, has been
named "Educator Os the Week."
Jones has been at Perry High
School for 25 years.
A Perry High graduate, she got
her Bachelor's degree from Shorter
College and Her Master's from
Mercer.
Her husband is James W. Jones
and she has two daughters, Selecia
and Valerie Jones, both PHS
graduates.
Michael Collins
Collins gets
'Student' nod
Michael Collins, a freshman at
Perry High School, has been named
"Student of the Week."
Michael is involved with the
Perry High choir and sings in the
Deliverance Tabernacle Holiness
Church choir.
Michael also helps as a Junior
Deacon and spreads the word of
God.
His parents are Leon and
Jacqueline Collins of Perry.
Harley re-ups
for three years
Sgt. destine K. Harley has re
enlisted in the U.S. Army at Fort
Riley, Kan., for three years.
Harley is a petroleum supply
sergeant with the 201st Support
Battalion.
She is the daughter of Lucy K.
and Sam K. King of Kathleen.
The sergeant is a 1980 graduate
of Perry High School.

publish some good information
about shade trees. I thought you
would benefit from this, so allow
me to share it with you.
When the homeowner selects
shade trees, fast growth is a major

to enjoy their benefits. The faster
the tree grows the betters.
While many of the available
trees advertised as "fast growing"
are good selections, many are not.
What is at first a delight at seeing
fast growth later becomes
disappointment as problems with
pests, limb breakage, or litter
surface.
The following information is
provided to assist the homeowner in
making good decisions about fast
growing tree selections. (Houston
County is located in zone III).
Growth Retreat had a wonderful
time and all thoroughly enjoyed the
speaker.
Jewel Britton presented the
program through a unique fashion
show. Serving as commentator,
Britton introduced officers, mission
coordinators and chairpersons as
they modeled their creative attire
that portrayed her position of title.
