Cookies add a touch of life to any holiday celebration
By ANDREA SELLERS
Staff Writer
The Christinas season brings
back memories of everyone’s child
hood. Christmas goodies are a fa
vorite of everyone, especially the
cookies.
Rolled and cut cookies arc proba
bly remembered by everyone from
their childhood. If you didn't make
them with your own mom they
were sure fare at school Christmas
parties.
Whether they arc decorated with
sugar or icing or any of a number
of sprinkles, shaped cookies have
been passed down for many years.
According to Belter Homes and
Gardens, the firmness of the cookie
depends on how much of either
butler or margarine a cook uses in
the dough.
Margarine that is made from 100
percent corn oil is so soft, cooling
limes for dough that is to be rolled
need to be changed.
Better Homes suggests refrigerat
ing dough made with corn oil for
five hours before it is rolled out.
This will help compensate for the
softness.
In addition, they also suggest
rolling part of the dough at a lime,
leaving the rest to slay chilled.
Sandies and Santa's Whiskers arc
just two more of the many Christ
mas favorites you can try.
For Santa's Whiskers, if you use
100 percent corn oil margarine,
freeze the dough for several hours
before slicing, it will work belter.

Don't let
crime spoil
the holidays
Christmas time should be a joy
ful time-time for sharing and re
joicing with friends and family.
Don’t let crime spoil your Christ
mas holiday! Here arc a few
suggestions to keep you and your
family safe this Christmas season:
—When out shopping, be sure to
keep all valuables locked in the
trunk of your car. Don't leave
packages, purses,m or other valu
ables in plain sight.
-Position your Christmas tree so
that packages cannot be seen from
outside your home. This will help
prevent templing potential thieves.
-Christmas is a time for good
will, bu remember not to let
strangers into your house. If some
one needs help, tell them that you
will make a phone call for them,
but don’t let them inside.
-Be sure to keep small orna
ments and decorations out of the
reach of children and pels. They
may swallow them and choke, and
the paint or other coloring may be
poisonous.
--When decorating with live
plants or greenery, remember that
many commonly used ones, such as
poinsetlias and mistletoe, are poi
sonous and should be kept out of
reach of pets and children.
By following a few simple safely
tips, you can help ensure that your
holiday season is not marred by
thefts or accidents.
