Armitage and Fendly
announce wedding plans
Judge and Mrs. Paul C. Armitage
of Greenville, South Carolina, an
nounce the engagement of their
daughter, Alice Muriel, to Mark
Alan Fendley, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Ray Fendley of Perry.
The bride-elect is the
granddaughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. George Armitage of Hamberg,
New York and Mr. and Mrs. Emmit
Akin of Perry. She graduated cum
laude with a bachelors degree in
Business/Accounting from Wes

Interviewer: "What should I do
now if I want to play ball for Perry
High when I get older"?
Robert: "You need to start lifting
weights... not a lot at first but
build up. You also need to run.
Coaches today want players that can
run. And of course, you need to
keep your grades up, but MOST
OF ALL YOU NEED TO HAVE
FUN WITH YOUR SPORTS.
There will come a time, if you go
on in athletics when it will not be
all fun but it will become a lot of
work".
Interviewer: Do you have to wear
any special shoes when you play"?
Robert: "Yes, I do have to wear
high top shoes to support my
ankle. I injured it earlier so I have
to protect it”.
Interviewer: Do you feel that at
titude is important in athletics”?
Robert: "Yes. Attitude is the
most important thing! If you don't
have a good attitude, you will never
do anything. For example, if the
coach asked me to set-up and score,
I’d try even though scoring is not
really my place on the team. I’d
sure try, then I can look at myself
In the mirror and say I did my best.
I can stand up whether the game is
win, lose, or draw. Being able to do
something like that is because of
attitude".
Interviewer: "Do you think play
ing sports is fun”?
Robert: Yeah, it’s about the fun
nest thing you can do, but it’s up to
you to make it fun".
Interviewer: "What sport do you
really like the best"?
Robert: "I really like football the
best because it is much more of a
team sport. Remember how I told
you that we run a two man shoot
ing team? Well, football is always
an eleven man team. Everyone has
to do his part to make it happen.
It’s work though. Just like school
work, It is not all play. It takes a
lot of time and it is then that you
find out who your friends are. There
will be those who don’t understand.
Girls who want your time, but if
you're dedicated to your sport, you
have to sacrifice.
I want to tell you something
about friends. They will offer you
drugs or alcohol, but you need to
tell them that you don’t need that
stuff. You need to believe in your
self. Trouble is easy to get into and
HARD TO GET OUT OF! I watch
out who I hang around with. I
probably will play ball in college
presently employed by McNair,
McLemore, Middlebrooks, and Co.
of Macon as an accountant
The future bridegroom is the
grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Acie Fendley of Thomasville, and
Mrs. Leo Powell and the late Mr.
Leo Powell of Grove Hill, Al
abama. He graduated with a B.S.
degree in Industrial Management
from Georgia Tech in September,
1986. He was a Dean’s List Student
and Georgia Tech Academic Schol
arship recipient. He is currently
completing a masters of Business
Administration at Georgia College.
He is presently a manager with
Frito-Lay in Perry.
The wedding is planned for 3:00
p.m. on Saturday, April 20, at the
Perry' First Baptist Church.
and I care a lot about that. I also
care a lot about my family. See, it
wasn't easy to grow up without a
mother. My mother died when I
was very young. My grandmother
and my Dad did the best they could
and I'm proud of that. They always
encouraged me to do my best. I
have some friends who are much
more talented at athletics that I am,
but they didn't want to pay the
price. They are not playing now and
one of them is in jail...picking up
trash. I won't end up like that.
Don't ever do anything you are
ashamed of. Be able to look your
self in the mirror. When you mess
up and do something wrong learn
from it so that you won't do it ever
again..
One very important thing that
you need to remember is that God
will be your best friend...maybe
your only REAL FRIEND. You
need to pray and get that friendship
with God.
If you are tempted to get into a
fight, run from it. Oh, I know
they'll call you scared. They have
called me scared plenty of times,
but some of those that said that are
now in jail. I have not always been
successful in walking or running
away from a fight, but I try. I know
it is important.
The thing I can say about myself
is that I try to use what God gave
me. I don't try to stretch it farther
that it can go. I want to see all of
you boys playing one day. So keep
that dream!!"
Life of Lincoln
by ANTHONY BAR
He was bom on Feb. 12, 1809 in
Kentucky. When Abe's cousin saw
him he thought that Abe looked
like squeezed cherries. When Abe
was seven he moved to Indiana.
Abe's mother died when he was
nine. Abe went to school when he
was 6,7,11,13, and 15.
On the way to Indiana die biggest
fear was sickness. The trip was
more than a thousand miles long.
People said he was the hardest
worker in Indiana.
He was nineteen when he worked
his way down the Mississippi
River on a flat boat. He moved to
Illinois when he was twenty-two.
He was the 16th president. He was
president from 1861-1865.
Lincoln died because John Wilkes
Booth shot him. Booth did not like
Lincoln. He died on April 15,1865

I hope I don't get into trouble at all.
"Mrs. Pund, I have a surprise for
you,"l said.
"Oh, is it alive?" Mrs. Pund
asked.
"Yes," 1 answered.
"What is it?" Mrs. Pund asked.
"Oh it is a puppy. Come on let's
go to the office to call your
mother." Mrs. Pund said." Come on
Bear," I thought.
Everybody in the office laughed
to see a dog come to school in a
bookbag. I had to sit in the lobby
untill my mother came to pick Bear
