The Westfield Lady Hornets
jumped out to an early lead and
cruised to a 60-39 victory over the
Flint River Lady Wildcats Thursday
night in the semifinals of the GISA
region 2AAA playoffs in Forsyth.
Westfield used the hot shooting
of Erica Graham in the first half to
open a lead that grew to as many as
16 points.
After Flint River scored the first
basket, Angela Santiago converted a
3-point play that gave Westfield a
lead they would not relinquish.
Flint River cut the lead to 8-6
but the Lady Hornets went on an 8-
1 run highlighted by a Graham 3-
pointer.
The Lady Wildcats cut the lead to
16-11 at the end of the first period.
Westfield went on a 10-1 run to
open the second period. All this
was without starters April and
Christi Horsting, both plagued with
three fouls and reserve Laura
Langston, who also had three fouls.
Kim Marshall came in to give
some valuable minutes to the Lady
Hornets.
In the mean time, Graham con
tinued her hot shooting by
connecting on four more baskets.
Westfield led 30-15 heading into
the locker room.
"To have bench play like we did
from a player that is normally a b
team player is really great," said
Westfield Lady Hornets Head Coach
Donna Campbell. "Knowing we
have bench play going into region
is great."
Flint River scored the first basket
of the second half, but the Lady
Hornets decided it was time to get
the ball inside to Christi Horsting.
Horsting's basket gave Westfield
their largest lead at 38-19 but Flint
River went on a 9-2 run to close
the period trailing by only 12
points at 40-28.
