It has been my privilege to have

business and to have him as a close
personal friend for a number of
years.
He is a man of integrity, strong
Christian faith, and blessed with an
effective common sense approach to
solving problems. He is a patriot
and is willing to sacrifice himself
for the good of this nation.
It is my plan to follow these
standards so we can begin the task
of eliminating our huge annual
budget deficits by reducing Federal
spending, not by raising taxes, and
begin to retire the enormous $4 tril
lion federal debt incurred during the
past 39 years of continuous
Democrat control over the U. S.
Congress. The financial future
of our children,
grandchildren, and nation
depends upon it. If we do not,
it is very likely the next generation
of Americans (our grandchildren)
will become cheap labor for foreign
owned business.
If we have the will to live
within our means, America will
again become competitive in pro
ducing goods and services, that will
create jobs for our citizens. The
answer to unemployment is
employment, not continued
federal unemployment benefits. As
we consider other concerns, let us
remember that every problem
does not require a
government solution.
We must maintain a strong
military in this unstable world,
which includes the deployment of
the Strategic Defense
Initiative (SDI) nuclear shield.
I support the National

Lightle has turned down PACs
Dear Editor:
Before voting on July 21 in the Eight Congressional
District Democratic primary race between Congressman
Roy Rowland and Bill Lightle, voters should be aware that
they finally have a real choice between a politician tied to
wealthy political contributors from outside Georgia and an
honest schoolteacher who has turned down SIO,OOO in
Political Action Committee (PAC) contributors.
According to Federal Election Commission documents,
Congressman Rowland has received hundreds of thou
sands of dollars in PAC contributions, most from outside
of Georgia, I would like to hear Congressman Rowland's
justification for accepting $500.00 on June 10, 1991 from
the American Sugar Cane League of Louisiana, $500.00 on
June 10, 1991 from the Barnett Banks of Florida, $500.00
on June 21, 1991 from Grumman Aircraft of Connecticut,
and $500.00 on June 27, 1991 from the Eli Lilly drug
company of Indiana.
If Congressman Rowland intends to cut the Federal
Budget, how can he explain contributions of $2300 from
PACs who represent Federal Government Employees, in
cluding SIOOO from the National Ass'n of Retired Federal
Employees, $350.00 from the American Federation of
Government Employees, and so forth?
Can Congressman Rowland do something about health
care costs? Not if he wants to earn the $6500 he received
from drug companies and $19,000 from doctor's ad health
care groups.
Can he make meaningful cuts in the Defense budget? Not
if he wants to keep getting contributions like the $6500 he
received from companies which do big business with the
Defense Department.
The tobacco industry also paid him S7OOO and even two
huge law firms - one in Cleveland, Ohio! - kicked in
SISOO. He also got SISOO from mining companies, SISOO
from insurance companies, and $3850 from oil companies,
none of which have the remotest thing to do with the State
cf Georgia, all of which want the Federal Government to
spend bug bucks on their interests.
So when I vote on July 21,1 think I will vote to return
government to the people and take it away from special in
terests. I am going to vote for Bill Lightle.
