was born in Michigan and raised in
Mississippi, learned how to bake
from his mother.
"My mother baked out of her
house for the public in Macon,
Mississippi for 30 years, you can’t
do that today. She taught me how
to bake and I learned the rest
through experience.
Borntragcr and his wife Bernadinc
w’ill do all the baking.
"The reason we're doing this is
because we wanted a business the
family could do together," he said.

A maintenance truck carrying
three city employees was involved
in an accident on Highway 341
South Thursday morning, resulting
in four people being taken to Perry
Hospital.
The accident occurred at approxi
mately 9:55 a.m.
The city truck, driven by John
Daugherty, was headed south on
Highway 341 in the right lane
when Betty Scott of Warner Robins
exited Interstate 75 South and re
portedly attempted to turn left onto
341 South. After Scott failed to

1991.
"We had been asked by a number
of people in Perry, who had sam
pled our food at bake sales, to open
a bakery here. We made the deal on
the building Sept. 24 and we had
customers coming in even before
we were officially opened," Born
tragcr said.
The store will specialize in bakery
goods made from scratch using tra
ditional Mcnnonite recipes. Num
bered among the specialities arc
pecan and raisin cinnamon rolls
with an abundantly generous spread
of icing, apple muffins, wheat and
white yeast bread, pecan and apple
pies, decorated cakes, zucchini and
banana nut bread and die tantalizing

available is only a phone call and a
day’s wait away.
"We will custom-bake cakes and
pies according to what pcoplb re

us and we have high hopes for die
holiday season. I'm working a full
time job elsewhere and I’d like this

Crown Victoria suffered damage to
the right front and rear fenders. The
estimated speed of the Crown Vic
toria was 15 miles an hour.
The city truck came to a stop on
the grass near the right shoulder of
Highway 341 and Scott's car
stopped on the shoulder.
The damage to both vehicles was
listed as extensive.
The three city employees, Daugh

Toomer, and the other driver, Scott,
were taken to Perry Hospital. All
four were treated and released Thurs
day afternoon.

could quit that job," he said.
The Borntragers have two sons,
Michael Jr., 10, and Timothy, 8,
and they moved to Montezuma to
live in a country environment.
"We wanted more of a country
lifestyle, we like living out there.
We have some cattle and the boys
have rabbits, which they enjoy.
The Mennonites arc very family
ariented, we have certain traditional
.Iress standards and we like to pro
vide an honest, high quality service
to the people we arc working for,”
Bomtrager said.
Borntrager has to work Sunday
hours currently and he hopes that
his new bakery will allow him the
freedom to take Sundays off.
"We'll be open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Tuesday through Saturday. As for
future plans I'd like to eventually
begin selling sandwiches served on
our homestyle bread," he said.
