Perry, from ib —
Following ihe kick off, Bass
threw a 28 yard pass to Boris King.
Following a run lor no gain. Bass
dropped back to pass, scrambled
away from pressure, then he was hit
and the ball came loose. Pirate
defensive back Kevin Walls scooped
up the fumble and raced 55 yards for
a touchdown.
Following a chilly halftime and
facing a thinned out crowd, the Pi
rates put together back to back
touchdown drives of 60 and 74
yards.
The Panthers scored early in the
fourth quarter following an Appling
County fumble at midfield.
Bass threw for 29 yards to Arthur
Billings and Teruya Williams ran
for nine yards. Two plays later,
Stacy Francis knifed in from 12
yards to end the scoring.
Appling County gained 377 total
yards to Perry's 252.
"1 really wonder what kind of
game it would have been if we
would have scored in the second
State, from 1B
County runners, which proved to be
the margin of victory.
Coach Carl Thomas, who has
now coached the boys to two region
titles in two years, is looking for
ward to today's meet.
"Last year we finished eighth out
of 16 teams, I'd like to finish in the
top eight this year. It’s a very
competitive field but last year our
lowest placed runner finished 50th
out of 130-140 runners so we're
hoping for a similar kind of per
formance," Thomas said.
The success of the squads is espe
cially impressive considering the
double duty many of the athletes tire
currently engaged in.
"Os the seven boys I have run
ning, four are also playing basket
ball. Os the six girls who arc run
ning, three arc playing basketball.
John Morton is a wide receiver on
the football team and he basically

a week I would visit the schools to
determine the health of the athletes
and decide if they would be able to
play that week. We had one player
with a spinal condition that ended
his career. Had he continued to
play he would have been paralyzed,"
Jordan said.
Jordan hopes to expand the role of
sports medicine into the commu
nity. In addition to setting up a
football clinic for area athletes, he
is also interested in providing edu
cation on proper exercise and health
for seniors and at area athletic
clubs.
Attebery's position was created by
Perry Hospital during the summer.
Following an interview with Hos
pital Administrator Jim Peak and
Perry High Coach John Stephens,
Attebery accepted the job and made
the move south from Ohio.
So far this season the Perry High
football team has been relatively in
jury free. Two players have been
working with Attebery on a regular
basis receiving treatment for a torn
Achilles tendon and a sprained an
kle.
Attebery works three hours a day
at the Perry Hospital Physical
Therapy Center helping outline
treatment programs, conducting
treatments and following up on
progress. From the hospital she
drives to Perry High to attend each
practice.
Jordan has a full-time practice
here in Perry and attends games on
Friday nights. The two plan to
continue through the athletic year.
"Being on the field is very exhila
rating. It kind of reminds me of the
days when I played football. I re
ally enjoy that setting and I've been

and that was a 21 point swing. We
moved the ball some, but they have
great athletes. They didn't pound

Stephens said.
The loss drops the Panthers to 2
and 3 in region play, and 3 and 6
overall. Appling County won their
eight game in a row, moving their
record to 8 and 1.

l he two sport athletes arc left to

days a week, and a mile a day on
two other days.
The Perry cross country teams
were inactive for several years and
Thomas' goal was to get some of
his basketball players in shape and
someday field a girls team.
"I'm extremely pleased with the
performance of the teams. My goal
with the girls was just to field a

been great so far," Jordan said.
"As a trainer watching a game its
a stressful situation. You have to
watch everything so you know why
an injury occurred. Games are the
most enjoyable part but also the
most stressful," Attebery said.
Jordan and Attebery have also en
joyed their working relationship.
"Having Lisa here is a tremendous
asset, she takes care of situations
and she's very knowledgeable. She
has managed to work well with the
team even though there was some
resistance at first over having a
woman for a trainer. The players
have learned to respect what she
knows," Jordan said.
"Ur. Jordan is one oi the best
physicians I’ve ever worked with.
He's a very good teacher and he
takes the time to explain things,"
Attebery said.

NOTICE OF SALE UNDER POWER

Finally 1 fired a warning shot from
my air rifle but I didn't warn him, I
hit him. The squirrel fell out of the
tree and the cat grabbed it and
started dragging it away. I kept
trying to get the squirrel from the
cat so it wouldn't take it in the
house, but I couldn't get it away.
Finally, I called my mom and she
said to let the cat have it. It made
me sad to shot the squirrel because 1
was trying to save it. Next time I'll
probably use a slingshot," Smith
said.
