Crossroads women plan Christmas programs
The Crossroads United Methodist
Women were the guest of Lynda
Noles when the group met at her
home Monday, Nov. 16. Ten
members and guest, Mrs, Jeanette
Dicky, enjoyed the fellowship.
President Alice Phelps opened the
meeting and called upon Lathcl
Thomason for the devotional. She
selected a work by Mother Teresa,
"Trouble With The Modern
Family" based on scriptures from
Matthew 25.
Several matters of business were
conducted, all of which concerned
different projects conducted by the
group during the holiday season.
Discussion of the dispersement of
funds for Christmas headed the list.
The annual Christmas dinner for the
group is scheduled for Dec. 14 at
the home of Susan Mills.

Need a head-start on Christmas?
Maybe a one-month warning bell?
Reenic Gautney, Postmaster,

This year's contemporary issue
offers a nostalgic look at
Christmases past with a different
antique toy pictured very colorfully
on each stamp in a series of four.
The traditional stamp depicts a
more serious and serene Madonna
and Child. The contemporary or the
traditional issue arc available in
sheet style or in booklets of 20.
This year the Postal Service intro

Annabcllc Lytle brought a very
interesting and informative program
titled "Literacy-Coping with
Words." Mrs. Lytle reported that
"nearly one billion adults are with
out basic reading and writing skills
and over 130 million school-age
children arc without access to
schools. The most disadvantaged in
Uicsc groups are w'omcn and girls as
reported by the United Nations
Decade for Literacy."
She urged the women to learn of
the conditions relating to illiteracy
around us and to support programs
of missions offering basic educa
tion. Another follow-up for the
program is to watch for and support
literacy issues in the state.
Following the program, the host
