have to have legislation undertaken

Commissioners to do something,"
commissioner Charlie Stewart said.
According to Sherrill Stafford,
chairman of the commission, the
commission cannot pass a law
stopping the dumping, because
state regulations allow it.
not have been done.
“The officer’s actions will be
reviewed, and I’ll determine if rep
rimandatory action needs to be
taken,” he said.
Simons said the amount of
damage done by the incident is un
determined, but the police car suf
fered “extensive damage.”
He said Bunn is ie:.p."»nsib!c for
the damage. “It obviously was not
an act of a city employee.”
White said she believes die city
is responsible for repairing the
damage done to her boat, house and
fence. “If the policeman hadn’t left
the key in the car, it wouldn’t have
happened.”

custom when scores were received
from the state."
Hitchcock said he had forgotten
that the scores had been released.
"Apparently nobody can remem
ber," Hitchcock said. "Apparently
Dr. Chapman released them from
his office. 1 couldn’t remember it. I
forgot about it and we didn’t have a
record of it."
According to board of education
officials, the problem arose when
die board was preparing information
to show that they met state stan
dards. No one was able to find doc
umentation or clippings that
showed that the ITBS scores had
been released. State standards require
that school systems release scores
to the press.
"There was no record that they
had been released," Hinnant said.
"The paper trail had been mixed up.
Neither Hitchcock or Gerald Boyd
had the information in their files."
"There was no documentation of
it in the office and there were no
clippings. We have to prove to the
suite board that we have released die
scores."
The Daily Sun printed a front
page article on the test scores on
June. 12. The Houston Home
Journal published a story on the
test scores on page 7A on June 13,
while the Perry Times ran a story
on the test scores on June 17.
When the scores were first re
leased, Hinnant was principal at
Warner Robins High School. He
also did not remember the release of
the scores.
"I didn’t remember it, but that
was a long time ago," he said.
"We didn't follow the right proce
dure in releasing the scores the first
time, Boyd said. "Normally there is
a press release done, that is our
documentation. When we started do
ing our standards folder we really
didn't have it. I didn't have anything
to do with the first release so I
didn't remember it."
Both the Houston Home Journal
and the Daily Sun ran stories in
mid-June after the release of the
ITBS scores.
Home Journal managing editor
Brigctlc Hamilton apologized for
any confusion or problems caused
by last Saturday's story.
"We had no idea the scores we re
ceived Thursday had anything to do
with the scores released at the June
press conference. We expect the
information we receive from the
board office to be accurate and cur
rent," Hamilton said.

Christmas parade because to them it opens the Christmas
season on a positive note. This is an exciting season for us
all but especially for our children and youth.
The band did not miss the Christmas parade not the
Georgia National fair parade on a whim. The band did not
participate for two reasons. First, 95 percent of the band
students are college bound students with a good many of
these being honor students. Every year the Educational
Testing services sets up three dates in the fall to give the
SAT -a test necessary in order to enter college. This year
the testing dates were the same dates as the Georgia
National Fair and the Christmas parades. Most parents will
agree that even though we love to see our band march, it is
more important to look to the future of our kids.
Second, 10 of or band students are members of the One
Act play group. We are very proud of our One Act! They
won first place in the state competition which just happened
to be on the same day as the Christmas parade.
Neither the band nor the school sets up these dates. They
are out of our control. The only suggestion I have is for the
committee in charge of the parades to check with the school
system when choosing a date and time for the parades.
Hopefully next year the band will be free to participate in
the parades. We really want to be a part of the celebrations!
I hope the above information will help you understand why
the band was not in the parades this year.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth McGukin

pointing finger at the Perry High band, she was
simply stating that a parade needs a band.)
