Recycling update
As you all know Perry has two
waste collection programs, one for
garbage and one for dry trash. It is
sometimes hard to tell which is
which. So a small reminder may be
of help. Garbage is the waste you
generate in the kitchen and bath
room and the stuff from your
wastebaskets around the house.
Mostly it is food and the packaging
from food preparation. It includes
all cans, glass, plastics and paper. It
also includes cardboard items. This
all goes in the green 85 gallon
wheeled container. Rear loading
garbage trucks take it all to the
Houston County Sanitary Landfill.
Trash is mostly yard trimmings.
But things made of metal, wood and
fabric are also trash. Old furniture,
bedding, rugs, appliances, toys and
tools are all trash. These things
need to be placed at curbside sepa
rate from the green garbage con
tainer. Collection crews haul all of
these thing to the Perry Dry Trash
landfill.

Minister relates his life in
China to local Kiwanians
By ANISSA CLEMONS
Staff Writer
Rev. Jack Key shared his experi

English in China with local Kiwa

Key, a retired Methodist minister
who resides in Dublin, and his wife
Ruth Ann taught at a Chinese uni

He said, “You can’t go to China
as a missionary, but you can go as
an English teacher.”
English is the most spoken sec
ond language in the world, Key
said. “More people speak English
in China than America.” The popu
lation in China is much larger than
America.
He said he and his wife taught
sophomores at the university, and it
was a constant “struggle.” Key gave
as an example the words “love,
move and rove.” He said they all
look like they’d sound alike: how

The students saw the Keys as
friends. He said the students felt
trapped, hostile and “largely hope
less.”
“A hundred times without God is
without hope in this world,” Key
said.

During the Keys’ term of teach

riots occurred. “It was like a vol

going to erupt while we were
there.”
He said the one and a half million
students committed “three or four
