WEDNESDAY JUNE 11, 1902 THE GAINESVILLE "One-fifth of the people who die in New York city die because of consumption, and it is the duty of the city and state to prevent it,” says Dr. E. J. Barrick of Toronto. Flying is not a twentieth cen tury idea. As far back as 1278 Friar Bacon predicted that flying would “shortly” become a general practice, and Bishop Wilkins m 1652 said: “It will yet be as us ual to hear a man call for his wings when he is going on a jour ney as it is now to hear him call for his boots.” There seems to be a lot ot stuff written these days about what a brute the American soldier is in the Philippines, but there is sel dom anything written condemna tory to the treacherous Filipino —he who will approach an un armed soldier under cover of a flag of truce and bolo him.-Dyer Reporter.
