H. Dean, Chairman Dem. Ex. Com. Hall Co. Engagement of Miss Eala Bosch and Mr Hightower. Mr. and Mrs. William Hoseh have an nounced the engagement of their daughter. Rose Eula, to Mr William Raleigh Hightower of Chattanooga Tenn., the wedding to occur on Tues day, Sept. 16th, at 6 o’clock, at the resi dance of Mr. and Mrs. Hosch on Spring street. This announcement will be received with much pleasure by the numerous friends of these popular youug people and their marriage will be a very im portent social event. Miss Hosch is one of Gainesville’s most beautiful and attractive young ladies, and belongs to one of the most prominent families of North Georgia Mr. Hightower is well known in the «ity. which was his home for many years. During his residence here he mas connected with the Gainesville M’d’se. Co. He is at present manager of the dry goods department of the firm of Miller Bros., of Chattanooga, and is one of the most successful young business men of that city. Miss Hosch and Mr, Hightower have a wide circle of friends, over the state, who extend to them their best wishes for a happy life. Mr. Hightower and bis bride will make their future home i» Chattanooga. Dam Complete j The new power dam that was being ! put across the Chestatee river at New I Bridge, between here and Dahlonega, by the Gainesville & Dahlonega Elec tric Railway Company, has been de-l dared completed, and this has been signalized by shotting off the water | from the building sluices. This dam is three hundred feet long, and gives a headway of twenty-six feet, and the volume of water gained is suf-, ficient to produce 1200 horse power. Eight monster horizontal turbine | wheels, geared on a shaft, will trans mit the power to two generators. These wheels have already been placed In position, and work is being done on j the power station. This will be com pleted by the time the work on the tracks and wiring for the street rail way and lighting system, thaj; is being I done in this city, is finished. The work of surveying and grading continues to j go on very rapidly on Green street, and the company hopes to have cars in op- j eration and be able to furnish the peo ple of Gainesville the bast rapid transit j facilities by Christmas, and put the i line in operation to Dahlonega next ] spring. Take a dose | after meals. Robertson & Law. Breaks His Arm in Ball Game. Will Wallace broke his arm in a very peculiar way while pitching a ball game in Winder last Friday. He had accompanied the Gainesville team to Winder, where they were to play the nine of that place, and was in the box for Gainesville. At the very first of the game, as he raised his arm to twirl » ball across the plate, the bone of his opper arm snapped in two. He eras carried to a residence near by, where he spent the night, and was brought to Gainesville Saturday on the noon train, and carried to the home of bin mother, Mrs. S. A. Wallace. He was at home on a vacation, and hopes soon to be able to return to Gadsen, Ala., where he has a railroad position, and where also he has quite a refuta tion as a bail player. A. Protaction. A meeting of night will begin D. V., the 1st. Sunday in September, at | Chestnut Street Church. We hope that it will not only be a protracted meeting, but a “revival” meeting. Teachers and Trustees to Sleet. There will be a meeting of the Hall | County Teachers’ and Trustees’ Associ ation in Gainesville the second Satur-1 dav in September. An interesting pro gram has been arranged and the oc casion will be a pleasant and profit able one to the members of the associa-1 tion who attend. Dinner will be served on the court house grounds. It j expected that a large number of teachers 2nd trustees will be present. Has Accepted The Call. Rev. T, M, McConnell, of Greenville S, C., who has been called toj the pastorate of the I p resbyterian church of the city, has accepted, and will arrive the 3rd. or 4th, of September. His salary was fixed at $1000 at a meetiug last week. Rev. McCon nell has the reputation of being a very fine preacher and pastor and no doubt the church will prosper | under bis charge. Public Schools Will Open. The public schools of the city will open Monday, September 1st. Sessions will be begun in the City Hall »Dd in the Mrs. Bickers’ school house on Broad street; the house in the southern part of the city will be provided f >r later.
