THE GAINESVILLE NEWS, WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 24, 1902. Will Build Bridge. The board of commissioner of roads and revenues met last Sat- I , y and decidea ro build , bridije over Mud creek, in the up er rvart of the conuty, and also to P kea change in the public road *jp ar Squire Herren’s. The bridge "ill be about a forty-foot span an d it will not take a great while to onild it ^ (jijje commissioners will also keep the road hands hard at it for sometime to come. They will put the roa d machines to work on the thoroughfares leading iDto the ■ ¥tt The commissioners have been given enough right-of-ways in different parts of the county to keep them at work makiDg such changes in the roads as are desired, lor the present. They do not pro pose to buy any riglit-of-ways, for the people pretty generally want good roads enough to give this much to the county . So far the coin mission ere have gotten along ver y well with the new road law, and indications are that they will aaveno trouble in the future. OIL MILL TO START UP. The Gainesville cotton oil mill will start up next week and run regularly throughout the season. Already the mill has been run a little, so as to get everything in good working order. A good many seed have been bought, and the mill is paying the farmers a fair price. It has been decided by Mr. Taylor the owner, not to install a fertilizer plant, at least for the present. A ginnery will not be put in at the mill this season, either. Mr. Howell Abbott is in charge ot the mill this season, and prospects are good for a splendid season. Talked About Sowers. Mr. J. M. Hayes of Petersburg, Va. was here Monday to confer with the city council about the survey and put ting in of a system of sewers. A called meeting of council was held in the afternoon, and Mr. Hayes told council what he knew about the matter, and made the following proposition: to sur vey the town for $1000; and to superin tend the construction of the sewerage system for $200 per month. He has been in the employ of the government and comes highly recommended as a civil engineer. Mr. Hayes said to the council that $17,000 or $18,000 would sewer the town properly. He said the largest sewer pipe that would be needed would he 12 inches, and-the smallest 8 inches. The reason larger pipes are not necessary is because of the splendid natural drain age of the town. Mr. Hayes does not recommend sewer pipes to carry off the surface water. He says this should he carried off by the natural or surface drainage. Keep the top clean and there will he no trouble about the sur face water running off, is what he says about it, and in this he is correct. Council is getting in shape to get this improvement under headway, along with the school house and streets. at G.F. TURNER CO’S. BIG STORE.
