UBS THE GAINESVILLE NEWh, WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 15, 1902: Tried on Writ of Lunacy. . Harrison Roberts was tried on a writ of lunacy in the Ordinary’s court Mon day. The writ was sworn out by Rob erts* wife. He is now in j.aiLon the charge of selling liquor without a li cense, and he* will have to stand his trial, instead ot going to the asylum, as the jury declared him sane. Burton 6f Monroe has bought a lot on Main street directly in I front of Jno. A. Smith Co. and will at an early date erect a commodious building and occupy it with a stock of merchandise. The Woman’s Foreign Missionary so ciety of the Methodist church will give a tea on Thursday evening, Oet. 16th at the residence of Mrs. R. Burnett on Green street, from 4 till 12. Everybody cordially invited. Admission 25 cts. Work on Mr. C. A. Dozier’s new home on Rice hill is progressing nicely, and when completed this will be one at the nicest residences in the city. It is large and roomy, and is modern in de sign. It will take several weeks yet to complete the work upon it. The continuance of wet weatner is giving the e o 11 o a t h e blues and most of ftie people- but we hope it will soon cease. It seems that one ex treme follows another as we had to suffer with the dry hot weather during the cultivation of our crops and we are now suffering with thewet weather during the gathering of them. Mr. W, G. Cooper and familv of Sloan’s Mills, were down last Saturday night visiting his parents here. Mr. A. S. Erwin of Gainesville has been teaching an arithmatic school here for the past week beginning last Tuesday night. Mr. Erwin is a fine mathematician. Mr. J. D. Deaton, the Clinchery Dis- j triet road overseer has been working j the roads on this side of the district for j the past week. Mr. Deaton is a good overseer and he has left the roads in good condition. Mr. Eberhart the county overseer was down with his road macnine polishing up the main roads in this part of the county. j • ■ I Mr. George Hudgins has purchased 140 acres of land from Mr. W- O. Ad ams. Mr. Hudgins is a hustling farmer and we hope he will make a success in life. Benefit Winnie Davis Memorial, j Prof. A. W. Van Hoose has' kindly consented to give a faculty concert at the auditorium of Breuau college Thursday evening October 23d., for the benefit of the Winnie Davis memorial. A most excellent program will be ren dered, and the concert will be a most pleasing one. The public is cordially asked to lend encouragement to the memorial by a liberal attendance upon this occasion. The members ofLongstreet chanter, Daughters of the Confederacy, are ex pected to occupy seats together at the concert. An admission fee of 25 cents will he charged.
