Mr. H. A. Terrell, agent of the South
ern Express Co. at this point, says he
has furnished fifty men to the company
since his connection with the ekpress
office'at Gainesville. All of those-who
have gone from here have held good
positions in the express service.
Wheat sowing has been in progress
for several weeks. The farmers are
not putting in as much as formerly,
from all reports. Thev say wheat rais
ing on a small scale is not very profit
able in this section. However, much
wheat will be harvested another year,
if conditions are favorable.

Miss Lottie Belle Whelchel, who is at
tending Brenau, spent several days of
this week with her parents, Dr. and
Mrs* Welchsl of Gillsville.
Col. C. C. Sanders left Sunday for
New Orleans, where he goes to attend
the bankers’ convention, which is hold
ing its annual meeting in that city.
Presiding Elder W. L. Pierce will
preach at the First Methodist church
next Sunday at 11:30 o’clock. The
public is cordially invited.
Mrs. W. M. Grogan of Middleton,
and Mrs. L. J. Bonham of Phildelphia,
were guests of Col. and Mrs. W. I.
Hobbs last Saturday and Sunday.
The stores and business bouses will
close on Thursday, November 27th,
Thanksgiving day. The public should
take notice and do their trading be
forehand.
Tbe Sunday school at Antioch will
have a celebration the fifth Sunday,
and Col. W. I. Hobbs has accepted an
invitation to deliver an address upon
this occasion.
Dr. T. M. McConnell and Dr. J. B.
George are delegates to the Presby
terian synod, which is now in session
in Atlanta. They represent the Pres
byterian church in Gainesville.
Dr. W. Quillian. Rev. A. A. Tilley and
other Methodist ministers are closing
up their work preparatory to attending
conference, which meets in Atlanta the
19th of this month.
Mr. S. C. Dunlap, Jr., trustee of Dr.
A. J. Robinson, bankrupt, and Col. W.
I. Hobbs went to Dawsonville last week
to attend the sales of the property of
the Robinson estate.
The junior class of Brenau will en
tertain on Wednesday, November 12th,
iu honor of tbe senior class, to which
event the voung men of the town have
been invited.

to supersede and abrogate all previous
charters of said city and for other pur
