Is the Name of the New Cotton Seed Oil
Mill. Ginnery and Fertilizer Works
To Be Built Here, and in Op
eration By Next Fall.
Another valuable enterprise has been
secured for Gainesville, and this time
it is The Planters M’f’g. Co., a corpora
tion capitalized at $>25, 000. 00, which
will run a cotton seed oil mill, ginnery
and fertilizer plant. Application is
now being made for a charter, and af
ter it is granted, organization will be
prefected. The principal stockholders
are Mrssrs W. A. Mathewson of Toc-
eoa, John Carter, A. J. Mundy, R. D.
Mitchell, and other well known citi
zens of Gainesville.
Work on the erection of the plant
will commence at an early date, and
the mill will be ready for Operation by
the next fall season. The plant will
be a large one, equipped with the latest
machinery, and is certain of success.
It will give employment to a number
of people, and will be a splendid enter
prise for Gainesville.
The securffag of this enterprise is due
to Mr. John Carter, and the thanks of
the people are extended him for his
work in getting Mr. Mathewson to
come to Gainesville, and is devoting
his time and energies to securing the
necessary local subscriptions.
Degree of Pocahontas.
Last Saturday night the degree of
Pocahontas was conferred upon the
members of the Gainesville and New
Holland tribes of Red Men, a delega
tion of Pocahontases coming up from
Atlanta to assist in the ceremony. The
occasion was a very pleasant one both
to the home people and the visitors.
In the party from Aalanta were Miss
Florence Bowen, Misses Maude and
Emma Green, Miss Minnie Davies. Miss
Minnie Chambers, Miss Ethel Millican,
Miss Myrtle Davies and Miss Mable
Cain, Mr. W. P. Stone, Mr. L. P. Milli
can, Mrs. C. C. Carter, Mr. J. C.
Bohannon, Mr. P. S. Chapman, Mr.
Pennington, Mr. F. F. Smith, Mr. Mo
ran, Mr. Nash and Mr. D. E. Green.
The visitors were given a trolley ride
over the city, and other courteries were
extended them by their hosts.

Shot Her Sister.
Near Gillsville, in Banks
county, a few days ago, Mrs. Lola
Wheeler accidentally shot and
perhaps fatally wounded her sis
ter-in-law, a Miss Wheeler, with a
revolver, which was supposed to
have been unloaded. The young
women were playfully handling the
weanon, when it was discharged
the ball taking effect m the boay
of the young lady, producing
mortal wound. The Wheelers live
on the farm of Ex~sheriff Hender
sonin Banks county.

A number of tests made by the
Vermont experimental station
found that arsenite of soda and
the arsenic-sal-eoda mixture are
very satisfactory tor killing weeds
along walks and drives. These
can be kept perfectly free of
weeds by the use of these mix
tures.

The contest fora representative from
the Gainesville public schools in the
oratorical meet to he held in Atlanta
this summer will be held at Hunt’s op
era house Friday evening April 3d
The contestants will he: Hammond
Johnson, Miss Maggie Johnson, Will
Hynds. Miss Bessie Harrison, George
Finger and Miss Myrtle Mealor. The
judges of the contest are, Governor
Candler, Col. H. H. Perry and Col.
Howard Thompson.
