Building New Reservoir.
Work has been commenced upon the
new reservoir at the water and light
plant. The two old reservoirs will be
consolidated into one immense reser
voir which will hold 3,000,000 gallons
of water. There is to be only one im
mense spring of water, and the present
water plant is to be graded out and the
bottom covered with chipped rock,
making it clean and clear at all times.
The improvements are to cost §2,000 or
more, and the city will have an excel
lent water station when the work is
finished. The city authorities hope to
have the work finished by January 1st
next.
Into New Quarters.
We are moving into the new Bailey
store, next door above Hardie & Son.,
where we will be better prepared to
accomodate the trade of Northeast
Georgia. Having secured the account
of Nelson, Morris & Co. we will here
after handle meat, lard, flour, graiD
hay, tobacco, etc., in car loads lots
and will make closer prices than eyer.
Our line of groceries will be more com
plate, and we can save the trade big
money. Don’t forget us in our new
qu&rtere.

Curly Shaving's.
A shaving of wood curls up owing
to contraction on one side and expan
sion on the other. This expansion is
accelerated by what is known as the
“hack iron” or “cap iron” which is used
in most planes.
The object of this “cap iron” is to
break the shavings into short lengths
and to prevent the “cutting iron” from
tearing or splitting the fibers of the
wood, which lie always more or less
in a slanting direction.
The nearer.,the edge of the “back
iron” is placed to the edge of the “cut
ting iron” the shorter the shavings are
broken off. These are smooth on one
side, and the serrations on the other
correspond -with the distance between
the edges of the two irons.
All wood, too, is formed in circular
rings, such as can be seen in the sec
tion of any tree trunk. • It follows,
therefore, that when the rings of wood
are cut across, as they are to a certain
extent in the act of planing, they are
reJfeved from tension, and curl up in
the endeavor to expand themselves.

Head. Massage Saves Hair.
“The hairbrush is responsible for
much of the baldness that we see,” a
barber said. “It irritates the scalp. It
destroys the little, delicate, tender fol
licles of hair that are trying their best
to get on in the world.”
“What would you substitute for the
hairbrush—the comb?” a man asked.
“By no means. I’d substitute rub
bing with the hands—massage. A lit
tle massage morning and evening, with
a shampoo once a week, would keep the
hair in excellent condition. It would
encourage new hair to grow, whereas
the vigorous brushing that Is so com
mon scares and kill# all the feeble new
hairs as soon as they sprout out. The
brash and comb should only be used
to part and arrange the hair—for about
half a minute, that is, daily.”
