The Christmas Tree.
The union Christmas tree at the
college auditorium last Tuesday
night was an eminent success.
A large crowd was in attendance

Santa Claus came in due time
and did something which was a

MET WITH TRAGIC DEATH,
J.T. Boffgrs Falls Headlong Down
Stairway in Atlanta.
Mr. J. T. Boggs, an aged citizen
of Gwinnett county, met a tragic
death in Atlanta Wednesday.
He was either shoved or fell
headlong down the stairway at 79£
Decatur street and his head strik
ing against the side of the lower
doorway caused death to ensue al
most instantly.
The Atlanta papers state that
Mr. Boggs came to the Gate City
for the purpose of drawing his
pension, he being an ex-confeder
ate soldier, and went up this stair
way hunting for the room where
he was stopping. It seems that
he got in the wrong stairs, and
James J. Cruce, a collector for a
money lender, ordered the old
man from the place, and witnesses
state that he led the old soldier to
the head of the staircase and de
liberately shoved him down. The
fall resulted in his death.
The ebroner’s jury found that
Boggs came to his death from a
blow received from a fall, and in
the opinion of the jurv Cruce
should be held until he could be
given a preliminary trial on the
charge of murder.
Cruce was confined in the Tower
on the strength of a warrant sworn
out by Coroner Stamps.
Mr. Boggs had two eons living
m Atlanta and he is said to be a
man who drank to a certain ex
te n t.
