THURSADY AFTERNOON.
REMARKABLE WORK
Of the Georgia Industrial Home for Des
titute Children.
Two years ago, February 22,
1899, Rev. W. E. Mumford, Foun
der, opened the doors of “Faith
Cottage,” Georgia ludustrialHome,
five miles north of Macon, iu tnis
at ite. The specific object of the
Home is the salvation ot the neg
ler t f •d, abandoned and outcast
children of destitute and disrepu
table white parents. It is non-sec
tarian and non-sectional. It is
now in possession of 200 acres of
land. Over SB,OOO have been ex
pended in the purchase of the farm
and the improvements thereon.
There are now six nice buildings
besides the outbuildings and
barns.
The home started with three
children on its opening day and
has cared for about one hundred
since that time, eighty of whom
ore now its happy and promising
inmates. These children are from
over forty counties in Georgia.
Every leading city in this state is
represented. It is the only Homo
ever founded in Georgia for the
specific class it proposes to reach.
It is a formatory—taking theso
children from the slums of city
and country between the ages of 6
and 15, when habits and character
are forming, and turning the
course of their lives into channels
of self-respect and self-support.
It is a home, not a prison, a pre
ventatory, not a reforatoiy. It
proposes the rescue of helpless in
nocence from depraved, vicious
and immoral surroundings. It is
supported entirely by private be
nevolence, through the efforts of
its founder. It is regulorly char
tered under the laws of Georgia,
and is highly endorsed bv press
and pulpit, as well as by the fra
ternities, and all the executive of
ficers of the state.
There is an honorable board of
directors to whom the founder and
president is responsible. The
founder and board of directors call
upon the people of Georgia everj’-
where to give March 80th as a day
of labor and thought to this unique
and wonderful undertaking. In
office, shop, field, store and home
let ns who have had a chance in
life try to help these little desti
tute white children of Georgia. A
day’s work for orphans in the fall
and a days work for abandoned
and destitute children in the
spring would give to Georgia two
of the brightest days in the histo
ry of her years.
The board of directors of this
great home are E. J. Willingham,
merchant; P. D. Pollock, presi
dent Mercer University; C. M Wi
ley, ordinary of Bibb county; W.
A. Davis, Past Grand Master of
Masons, all of Macon, and State
School Commissioner, Hon. G. R.
Glenn, of Atlanta.
Address all letters to Rev. W. E.
Mumford. President, Box 572, Ma
con, Ga.

LADIES, HAVE YOU SEEN
Or heard of Solid Cuevee Silver
Tableware? This is the new’ metal
that is rapidly superseding sterling
silver for spoons, knives, forks and
other tableware. It is exactly the
same metal through and through,
has no plating to wear off, looks
just like sterling silver, is harder
and will wear longer. Costs about
one-sixth as much. It is not for
sale in stores, but every lady in
this vicinity can obtain-a set of
these Solid Cuevee Silver Tea
spoons, warranted to wear for
twenty-five years, without paying
a cent. Write for this free offer at
once, before it is withdrawn.
