THUKSADY AFTERNOON.
A Card.
Editors Ne ws-Herald : Please
do me the kindness to publish the
following communication, which
is self-explanatory.
Very truly yours,
W. G. McNelley.
Editor Tribune: In your issue
ol last week under the headiug
“Stockholders Meet,” the state
ment is made that “I left several
hundred dollars of my debts un
paid” when I loft Monroe upon
forfeiture of my lease on the Trib
une outfit.
Tnis unqualified assertion does
me a great injustice, and I theie
fore appeal to your sense of fair
ness to allow me a little space in
your paper in explanation.
All the debts left unpaid by me
on my departure from Monroe were
created in the publication of the
Tribune,and they amounted to less
than S2OO, as the dividend to the
stockholders was not then due. To
secure the payment of these debts
I turned over to the president of
the company all the accounts due
the paper for subscriptions and ad
vertising,in the aggregate amount
ing to a much larger sum thau the
debts I left unpaid. These accounts
were to be collected by tne Trib
uno Company and applied to the
payment of what was then due;
first, to the employees, then to the
payment of office rent, and last, to
the payment of a dividend to the
stockholders.
I note that you Btate that all
this indebtedness has been dis
charged and the dividend paid the
stockholders.
Under the terms of my forfeit
ure any residue was to be paid to
me. I have called upon the presi
dent of your company for a state
ment of all collections on accounts
turned over to him, but up to this
time have received nothing from
him
My lease contract with the Tri
bune company contained a forfeit
ure clause, which I availed myself
of, after losing a year of my time
and more thau S2OO of my private
funds in the publication of the pa
per. I complied with my contract
to the letter in forfeiting the lease,
by turning over to the company
every cent of the assets of the bus
iness—all accounts for advertising
and subscriptions remaining un
paid—and I left Monroe a poorer
but wiser man trom my unpleasant
and unprofitable experience there
in the newspaper busiuess.
It is needless to recite here that
many unjust strictures have been
heaped upon me since my depart
ure by former pretended friends,
who, while I was among them and
serving their purposes, had noth
ing but encomiums of praise for
me. Very respecrfully,
W. G. McNelley,
Atlanta, Ga , March 9, 1901.
TOT CAUSES NIGHT ALARM.
“One night, my brother’s baby
was taken with croup,” writes
Mrs. J. C. Snider, of Crittenden,'
Ky., “it seemed it would strangle
before we could get a doctor, so
we gave it Dr. King’s New Discov

permanently cured it. We always
keep it in the house to protect
our children from croup and
whooping cough. It cured me of
a chronic bronchial trouble that
no other remedy would relieve.”

A TESTIMONIAL FROM OLD
ENGLAND.
“I consider Chamberlain’s Cough
Remedy the best in the world for
bronchitis.” says Mr. William

“It has saved my wife’s life, she
having been a martyr to bronchitis
for over six years, being most of
the time confined to her bed. She
is now quite well.” Sold by Bag

A SUBSTANTIAL FACT.
W. R. Clark, Pickaway, Va.,
says: I have for several years
been using Ramon’s Pills in my
family with most satisfactory re
sults, and do not hesitate to rec
ommend them to my customers as
superior to any of the various
kinds kept in stock. Not only are
your pills reliable but Ramon’s
Relief and Nerve and Bone Oil are
the most satisfactory remedies I
ever handled, and if they were
more generally used they would
often make the doctor’s bill only
25c instead of $2.00* These goods
need no dusting in my stock, be
cause they are constantly coming
in and going out —are trade win
ners and trade keepers. These
good qualities ere not a theory but
a substantial fact. Sold by all
dealers.
