SHOULD AVOID
“MUCK RAKING”
Cultivate the Habit of Seeing
and Remembering Only
the Good.
Say, are you an Indian, or a human
being ? They say an Indian never
forgets, whether it, be an injury or a
kindness, and if wo do not wish to be
classed with the savage then let us
be human beings and learu to forget.
Nearly all the unhappiness iu the
world comes from this habit of re
membering what ■should be forgot
ten.
F'orget tlie faults of other people,
they have them; so do you, and so do
all of us, and remembering them
does not alter them—but if they are
bad, be on your guard; if disagree
able, avoid them; but never hate
them.
Forget, your own failures and re
member your successes—make from
the failures a ladder upon which to
climb the greater heights—and forget
all gossip as soon as you hear it, or
before —for of all hideous things this
shrewdisli “Dame Gossip” is the
most hideous. And we should forget
to do any one an injury, but remem
ber to do every one ,a kindness, for a
kind act lives forever.
Forget all your enemies and re
member all your friends, or, still
better, live so that all will be your
friends.
Let us not waste time in hating
anybody; we need that for other
things; life is too short.
Let us forget blasphemous and vul
gar words and remember the clean
and splendid words of our own beau
tiful English language.
Remember the beautiful days of
June, the golden harvest time, the
bright, sparkling winter mornings,
the seductive summer hours, and
that the coldest, bleakest winter is
always followed by a glorious spring,
that the darkest storm is followed
by a beautiful sun set; somewhere
the beautiful sun is always shining,
even though it does not always shine
on us.
Let us forget to spend valuable
time “muck raking.” We should
not spend our time looking for the
base in the lives and characters of
those about us. Why not exalt, the
good and noble, the gold in ever} 7
human life, instead of eternally look
ing for the base, with which even
the best are hampered ?
Are we Indians? If So, join the
ranks of the forgetters—accept peo
ple as they are or forget them. Life
is too short to spend time in mourn
ing for those whom you have found
unworthy—try to forget them.
Violet.

OUT OF COUNTY SUBSCRIBERS.
.I, •
Th* News-Heratd de*ires to call
the attention of Its subscribers who
reside elsewhere than in Gwinnett
county to the following:
On the first day of September all
out of the county subscribers who ar*
not paid up will necessarily have to
he taken off our books. Our subscri
bers residing in Gwinn®tt county are
pretty well paid up and those in ar
rears will either come to our office
this fad and pay up or pay our col
lector. but thos* residing out of the
county cannot be reached by a col
lector, and a large number of them
pay no attention whatever to our re
quests for payment of what they are
due. We have been as patient as we
know how to he and made several
courteous requests for payment of
amounts due us, but, the time has ar
rived when patience ha* ceascu to he
a virtue. It is our earnest desire to
continue building up our subscription
list, and that i* what we propose to
do, but at the same time we cannot
afford to send the paper to people who
will not pay u*, audit's worth abso
lutely nothing to us to keen them on
our list. On April Ist of this year a
large number were cub off, but since
then another crop has coins on, and
it is up to us to comply with the rul
ing* of the postofflce department and
protect our bu-dnesß. Therefore, all
out of the county subscribers who are
not paid up by the first day of Sep
tember will be taken from our list
and the account* pushed for collec
tion. We earnestly hope that, those
t'-hind with us will take notice of
■ this and not only p -y up what they
are due but extend their time twelve
months - We exert a great deal of
einrgy to give you a good paper, and
to continue doing so, we must have
compensation for our services. In
kindness and justice, let us hear from
all who come under tiiis head at
once.
Joe Brand Sold His Farm.

Mr. Brand will sell buggies with

country with a number of vehicles.
May Come to Lawrenceville.
We understand that Dr. J. M.
Guess is seriously discussing with
himself whether it would be best
for him to pull up stakes at Cen
terville, move to Lawrenceville
and put up a first class drug store.
We trust his good judgment will
control in this matter, and render
a decision in the affimative. He
is a first class physician and phar
macist, and would be sure to find
the change both profitable and
pleasant, while he and family
would he a welcome addition to the
social circle here.
