Putting the Fly in its Proper Place.
Have you ever observed the pro
ceedings of a gang of merry village flies
round a kitchen door? Instinct? Non
sense ! A fly has the thinking appara
tus of a Daniel Webster. The screen
door is there, to be sure, but what is a
screen door to a calculating fly ? Noth
ing but an expense to the housholder.
The flies congregate in bevies of 3,000
or 4,000 on the casing just over the
door and wait for the inevitable open
ing_which occurs at intervals of five
minutes all day long. Every time a
door opens a regiment of flies swoops
into the hot, odorous kitchen, and
thence scatter to parts of the house
which flies like best. Is there a remedy?
Any way to put flies and humanity on
an equal footing? We are told so in
The Youth’s Companion of April 6th.
Prof. Clinton F. Hodge of Clark Univer
sity (and Clark University is in the fly
belt) suggests two or three remedies,
and One is so simple that anyone can
employ it. Still, the fly is a knowing
“critter,” and will not succumb with
out a struggle.

The Cause of Many
Sudden Deaths.
There is a disease prevailing in this
country most dangerous because so decep-
Stive. Many sudden
deaths are caused
by it—heart dis
ease, pneumonia,
heart failure or
apoplexy are often
the result of kid
ney disease. If
kidney trouble is
allowed to advance
tli e kidney-poison
ed blood will at
tack the vital organs, causing catarrh of
the bladder, brick-dust or sediment in
the urine, head ache, back ache, lame
back, dizziness, sleeplessness, nervous
ness, or the kidneys themselves break
down and waste away cell by cell.
Bladder troubles almost always result
from a derangement of the kidneys and
better health in that organ is obtained
quickest by a proper treatment of the kid
neys. .Swamp-Root corrects inability to
hold urine and scalding pain in passing it,
and overcomes that unpleasant necessity
of being compelled to go often through
the day, and to get up many times during
the night. The mild and immediate effect
of Swamp-Root, the great kidney remedy
is soon realized. It stands the highest be
cause of its remarkable health restoring
properties. A trial will convince anyone.
Swamp-Root is pleasant to take and is
void by all druggists in fifty-cent and
rae-dollar size bottles. You may have a
ample bottle and a book that tells all
ibout it, both sent free by mail. Address,
Or. Kilmer & Co., Binghamton, N. Y.
Vhen writing mention i eading this gen

my mistake, but remember the name,

you something in place of Swamp-Root—
U you do you will be disappointed.
Pale-Faced Women
You ladies, who have pale faces, sallow complexions,
dark circles under eyes, drawn features and tired, worn
out expressions, you need a tonic.
The tonic you need is Cardui, the woman’s tonic.
It is the best tonic for women, because its ingredients
are specifically adapted for women’s needs. They act on
the womanly organs and help to give needed strength and
vitality to the worn-out womanly frame.
Cardui is a vegetable medicine. It contains no min
erals, no iron, ho potassium, no lime, no glycerin, no dan
gerous, or habit-forming drugs of any kind.
It is perfectly harmless and safe, for young and old to use.
CARDUI
The Woman’s Tonic
“After my doctor had done all he said he could for me,*
writes Mrs. Wm. Hilliard, of Mountainburg, Ark., “I took Car
dui, on the advice of a friend, and it helped me so much.
“Before taking Cardui, I had suffered from female
troubles for five years, but since taking it, I am in good health.
“I think there is some of the best advice in your book
that 1 ever saw.” Your druggist sells Cardui. Try it

Prizes for Brooding Passeng.-i-!
Pigeons
i
Flocks of millions of passenger-pig
eons used to darken the air in some parts
of the United States, and not so many
years ago, either. Today the bird is no
longer seen and my be extinct. In
the Boy’s Page of the Youth’s Compan

the rewards that have been offered for
the first finding of a brooding nest
of the passenger pigecn. The condi
tion! of the offer should be studied
with care, as it is easy to mistake an
other pigeon for the passenger.
