FROST PROOF BUSINESS
Frostproof has had several busi
ness changes within the past few’
weeks, and one of the changes that
will interest the people of the town
is that of the 5, 10 and 25 cent store,
recently opened here by P. C. An
drews, which has been purchased by
J. H. Hannah, of Lawrenceville, Ga.,
who with his family has moved to
Frostproof to make their future
home. Mr. Hannah comes here pri
marily to enter into the lumber and
supply business, about which we will
have an announcement to make lat
r>r, but has purchased the business of
Mr. Andrews and with Mrs. Hannah
in charge will establish a first class
millinery business. A new and up to
date stock will be put in and the
building in which the store is located
will be remodeled into an attractive
store room with glass front and
lights.
Mr. and Mrs. Hannah and three
children, all of whom are of school
age, are occupying the rooms above
the store at present, and the children
have entered the school. Mrs. Han
nah spoke very complimentary of the
school and the town in general and
feels that they will be happy and
comfortable here after they have be
come acquainted with the town and
its people. We are glad indeed to
welcome them to Frostproof, where
they will be a valuable addition to
the social and religious activities of
the town. —Highland News, Frost

THE NEWS-HERALD, L«wrenc«Tille, Georgia
ARCTIC’S STRATEGIC VALUE.
That the proposed trip of the She
nandoah is one of exploration to cir
cumvent other land-greedy nations
will be surprising to many Ameri
cans. Secretary of the Navy Denby
calls attention to the menace) to
Alaska involved in a vast unexplored
area contiguous to that territory.
Therefore the Shenandoah is being
sent to learn whether there is land
north of Alaska and what the re
sources are. Further the secretary
warns that if we do not go this year
it will be of no use to go at all, some
other nation will beat us to it. If.
as some scientists believe, there is
land in the unexplored Arctic regions
it is predicted it would prove of high
strategic value in war and commerce.
If land is discovered, of course, the
United States will annex it.
While the view taken of the value
of the land which may exist in the
Arctic may appear fantastic, that
the ice output might seem the only
product, it would not be safe to scout
the idea as wholly visionary. When
Secretary Seward negotiated for the
purchase of Alaska the public view
of the deatructability of that region
■was not complimentary to that gen
tleman’s foresight. That there could
be land of any value in the ice-locked
Arctic may appear absurd, but who
knows? If the Shenandoah makes a
successful flight we shall have more
information. Thus it is not to be a
trip merely to the north pole, but a
voyage of exploration in that direc
tion covering territory in which man
has not hitherto been.

To the oVters of Gwinnett County:
I hereby announce myself a can

County Superintendent of Schools,
subject to the primary on March
19th. During the past three years I
have endeavored to perform faith
fully the duties of the office, giving

FOR COUNTY COMMISSIONER.
Having been solicited by many
good citizens from every section of
the county to make the race for
county commissioner, J hereby an
nounce my candidacy for said office
at the primary election, and should
I be elected I pledge myself to dis
charge all duties of the office.
Here are a few items that I am
not in favor of, and some that I am:
I don’t believe in a county com
missioner being clerk of board of
commisioners.
I am not in favor of convicts
staying in winter quarters the year
round, and being transported to
their work in trucks.
Am not in favor of the county be
ing cut in three departments, for
there is more or less friction with
board of commissioners.
Believe in the tax payers knowing
twice a year by an itemized state
ment through the papers where their
money has been spent.
In favor of all road taxes being
spent in the district where it was
collected.
Under the system that Gwinnett
county has been run for several
years, I can’t see why a man can’t
save the county at least $3,000 per
year.
Respectfully,
W. B. HOPSON.
