THURSDAY, APRIL to, 1924 Mteji MRS. LILLIE EXUM Mrs. C. R. Thompson shopped in Atlanta Tuesday. Mrs. J. P. Gunter, who has been ■quite sick, is improving. Mr. and Mrs. Jones, of Athens, were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Nix Methvin. Rev. and Mrs. J. R. King, of De catur, are the guests of their daugh ter, Mrs. D. M. Byrd. Mr. George Powell, of Gainesville, was the tea guest of Mr. and Mrs. Howrd Garner, on Monday evening. The litle daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Biggers, on Jackson street, who has pneumonia, isr eported improv ing. Mrs. Irene Powell Schroder and baby, of New York city, are the guests of her sister, Mrs. H. C. Smith. Mrs. O. R. Juhan, who has been attending the Presbyterial at Cov ington, returned home Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Eula Hamilton and daugh ters, Mildred and Kathleen, of Gainesville, were the guests of friends here Monday. Mr. E. M. Rockmore, who is work, ing in Norfolk, Va., arrived in Law renceville to day, tos pend some time with his family here. A number of local Masons at tended the funeral of Mr. John K. Jackson, at Prospect Wednesday, this lodge being in charge of the ser vices. Mr. C. E. Motfort, Mrs. Weyman Gower and Mrs. M. C. Austin went to Monroe Wednesday afternoon, they being the judges in the prelim inary contest. Mrs. E. L. McKelvey entertained Circle No.. 1 of the Baptist W. M. U. Monday, April 7th. A very interest ing program was carried out with Mrs. Aderhold as leader. Fifteen members were present. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Mark Forrester. After the business meet ing a social half hour was enjoyed and delicious refreshments were served by Mrs. McKelvey. Work on the concrete road from the depot to court square is pro gresing nicely and when completed will be a valuable asset to our town. Announcemet is made chat Rev. Fox, of Winder, will preach Sunday morning and evening at the local Christian church. A cordial invita tion is extended all to hear him and all members are especially urged to be present. In making mention of those re ceiving places in the preliminary contest, in “Reading Writing,” The News-Herald made a mistake and published Charley Pentecost’s name instead of Annie J. Pentecost’s. Sor ry the mistake came about, but glad to make correction. W. H. Bell, deputy inspector of the fish and game wardens, was in Gwinnett county Tpesday. Mr Bell was calling on County Game Warden L. R. Martin, of Lawrenceville, and the various deputy county wardens, and making an earnest appeal for the keeping of the game laws. Gerald Johnson, secretary of the Georgia Christian Missionary Socie ty, of Athens, and H. C. Eream, field secretary of the World Wide Loyal Movement, of Cincinnati, Ohio, spent several days this week in Gwinnett county. These gentle men are making a survey of the churches and Sunday schools of the State.
