CHURCHES MAY UNITE.
It i 3 stated that the outlook is fa
vorable for adoption by the quadren
nial general conference of the Meth
odist Episcopal church, which meets
at Springfield, Mass., in May, of the
'■plan for unification of the main body
with the Methodist Episcopal church,
South. The plan has been drawn up
by commissions representing both
organizations and it provides for one
church under both jurisdictions. The
plan must have the approval of both
churches in order to become effective.
The two churches are one in doc
trine yet they separated before the
cjvil war not on theological issues, but
oji a political, or social one—the in
stitution of slavery. How long a time
is required to wipe out sectional an
imosities is well illustrated in that
though the bone of contention ceased
to exist three-score years ago, the two
divisions of the original church have
gorte theit' separate ways as though a
vital difference still held them apart.
That other churches suffered a like
division goes to show that, while re
ligion may be esteemed vital, some
material things may take precedence.
Of course, those who stood for slav
ery in many cases thought it was
divinely appointed. Thus they made
.he institution tally with their re
ligious beliefs.
Should the two branches of the
Methodist Episcopal church be re
united under the plan proposed it is
possible that for administrative pur
poses they would be managed not
grealy at variance from at present.
Each W'ould be supreme in its juris
diction. If the plan receives the ap
proval of both bodies concerned an
other bit of evidence will be offered
that the civil war is over.

THE FAITH Ft Lr <>NE.
There is just a faithful one,
That one is not under the sun;
It is the Father above
In the heaven of love.
It is not way down below.
Where the bad of earth do go,
*ut in the heaven of rest,
’.'Where we ail ought to be blest.
*VVhcn we ■"-* s will r«st. in
peace.
But some will never cease
Until I ell below they have to go;
We shall reap what we sow,
And the glory you will know
When the crown you have won
By the side of the faithful one.
Dear God, you are the only way
To bring us to heaven, they say;
We can’t , fjy in ,a car up there,
But the angels will tell us
Where to stay in your path,
And not to stray so far away.
If we will follow the right
And not do things to spite,
We will be led on to fair heavens;
To sit by your side and look in your
eyes.
To think of what we have done
When cur victory’s won.
When the darkness comes with no ray
of sun.
He cries and says, “Where is the
faithful one?”
Then he will answer and say,
“Come thou with me;»I am close to
you.”
When only a lad our Lord was true
To everyone, to me and you;
Dear Lord, we ask your prayers for
everyone
That is under the sun,
And, Lord, we won’t forget the faith

Economic Salvation Will Be Gained
Only Through Crop Diversification,
Srys Agricultural Department.
’ Atlanta, Ga.. April 21. —The eco
nomic salvation of the Georgia and
the southern farmer can be gained
only through crop diversification, in
the opinion of the officials of the
Georgia department of agriculture.
The one-crop plan is antiquated,
these officials show . It has kept the
farmers of the south under a burden
of debt for many years and was the
greatest bar to southern progress
along all lines that the south has
known since civil war days, with its
farmers practically bankrupted, it
was not possible for southern business
of any kind to prosper, for the farm
er was and is the backbone of busi
ness.
Growth of the diversification idea
has been rapid in the south, it was
stated here. In Georgia many farm
ers have within the past few years
realized that only through diversified
farming and cooperative marketing
could agricultural freedom be ob
tained, and today Georgia is one of
the leading states of the south in ag
ricultural progress.
With the boll weevil still a grave
menace to cotton, and the promise that
reduced demand for the staple will
cause a decline in price before the
next crop is grown, it is important, as
pointed out by J. J. Brown, Georgia
commissioner of agriculture, that
farmers of Georgia, as well as the
rest of the south, move with great
caution in taking on more cotton acre
age than they have been handling.
It really would be the part f wis
dom for the cotton growers to curtail
their cotton acreage this year, the
commissioner said. A larger acre
age, as he shows, not only would cost
more to cultivate and gather, but it
would give the boll weevil more plants
to feed upon and destroy and if the
price of cotton should decline, as it
threatens to do, the farmer with the
larger acreage would face heavy fi
nancial loss.
The Need of Reforestation.
If trees grew item the see ! to tlm;v
toll height in a year or so, ’i’ ■ wheat
or corn, Georg.a amt other southern
states would not be troubled with a
threatened shortage in t’nd lumbar
crop, it was stated by fefrest/conser
vationists.
The fact is, as pointed cut. it takes
trees many years to mature some
times a generation that plants them
cap hardly secure the benefits {f trees
as lumber, is probably the only rea
son, it is claimed, that America today
has not a definite reforestation policy
that would assure a continuous sup
ply of lumber in perpetuity.
The statement was made, on figures
now being studied, that there are 81,-
000,000 acres of land in the United
States that are idle and unfit for any
thing except growing tree*. Thu**
.11,000,000 idle acres, Georgia forest
conservationists claim, have a direct
effeot upon the purses of all citizens.
As is shown, as lumber becomes
scarce, houses cost more, rents are
higheri furniture is more expensive,
and an additional toll is taken at ev
ery point where the human race
makes use of wood.
“Had these 81,000,000 idle acres
been planted in timber trees during
the last generation, we would prob
ably today be paying less for our
houses and for the various articles
in which wood is used,” said an At
lanta statistician. “But the last gen
eration gave little thought to us in
this regard, and we are, so far, pur
suing the same course of indifference
to the next generation.”

Food for the boll weevil may he di
vided into classifications. One costs
the farmer and the weevil benefits,
while the other costs the boll weev.l
its life and the farmer profits. A
farmer may either fail to use weevil
control methods and let the weevil
feed on the plants or he may apply
control methods and let the weevil
die and every time one Weevil dies it
means tHe prevention of thousands of
others of other generations Coming in
to the world to ravage his crop.
Examine Plants Daily.
As explained in a previous article,
farmers should examine their fields
for boll weevils daily as soon as the
plants make their appearance. When
as many as twenty boll weevils are
found on an acre poisoning should be
gin. Calcium arsenate in dust form or
in a home-mixed calcium-arsenate
molasses mixture is recommended by
state and government experts at this
sage.
When the dust is used it may be
applied either by cotton dusting ma
chinery or shaken from a bag on the
tips of the plants and from five to
seven pounds of calcium arsenate
should be used to the acre.
The molasses mixture is usually ap
plied with a home-made mop which is
used to sprinkle a few. drops into the
tips of the plants. The contents of
the mixture are as follows;
One pound of calcium arsenate, one
gallon of molasses and one gallon of
water, or, with extremely heavy infes
tation and with frequent rains, a
stronger mixture of two pounds of
calcium arsenate, one gallon of table
quality syrup and one-half gallon of
water, which may give quicker kill
ing and better control.
In syrup mixtures- the syrup- must
always be sweet, the experts say, and
should be applied within tweftty-four,
hours after mixing. The usual ap
plication required is about one gallon
per acre.
With a small number of weevils
emerging from hibernation treatment
of the plants by these methods in the
early stages is considered to be a sure
way to prevent a heavy infestation
with a consequent increase of control
costs later in the season.

culture or the National 801 l Weevil

Eat Prunes If You Wish
To Grow Fat and Plump
THIN MEN AND WOMEN DO YOU
W ANT TO GET FAT AND BE
STRONG?
The trouble v.f*n most thin folks,
who wish to gain weight, is that they
insist on Hruging their stomach or
stuffing it with greasy foods: rub
bing on useless “flesh creams,” or
following some foolish physical cul
ture stunt, while the real cause of
thinness goes untouched. You can
not get fat until your digestive tract
properly assimilates the food you
eat. Drink a glass of cold water four
or five times a day and take the fol
lowing preparation, known to relia
ble druggists everywhere, which
seemingly embodies the missing ele
ments needed by the digestive or
gans to help them convert food into
rich, fat-laden blood. This prepara
tion is called Prur.itone, and much
remarkable testimony is given as to
its successful use in flesh building.
Prunitone taken at meals to prepare
fat, flesh and muscle building ele
ments so that the blood can readily
accept and carry them to the starved
portion of the body. You can readily
picture the transformation ‘hat addi
tional and previously lacking flesh
making material should bring to
your cheeks, filling out hollows about
your neck and shoulders, and your
taking on from 15 to 30 pounds of
solid, healthy flesh. Prunitone is
harmless, inexpensive, efficient.
Jones Drug Co. is selling quantities
of it to their customers daily, if you
need a tonic try it at once.
Caution: Prunitone is recommend
ed only as a flesh builder nnd while
excellent results'in eases of nervous
indigestion, etc., have been reported,
care should be taken about using it
unless a gain of weight is desired.

Drink Water If
Kidneys Bother
I Take a Tablespoonful of Salts
If Back Pains or Bladder
is Irritated
Flush your kidneys by drinking a
quart of water each day, also take
salts occasionally, says a noted au
thority, who tells us that too much
rich food forms acids which almost
paralyze the kidneys in their efforts to
expel it from the blood. They become
sluggish and weaken; then you may
suffer with a dull misery in the kid
ney region, sharp pains in the back or
sick headache, dizziness, your stomach
sours, tongue is coated, and when the
weather is bad you have rheumatic
twinges. The urine gets cloudy, full
of sediment, the channels often get
sore and irritated, obliging you to seek
relief two or three times during the
night.
To help neutralize these irritating
acids; to help cleanse the kidneys and
flush off the hody’s urinous waste, get
four ounce* cf Jad Salts from any
pharmacy here. Take a tablespoonful
in a glass of water before breakfast
for a few days, and your kidneys may
then act fine. This famous salts is
made from the acid of grapes and
lemon juice, combined with lithia, and
has been used for years to help flush
and stimulate sluggish kidneys; also to
neutralize the acids in the system so
they no longer irritate, thus often re.
lieving bladder weakness.
Jad Salts is inexpensive; cannot in
jure and makes a delightful efferves
cent hthia-water drink. By all means
have your physician examine your
kidneys at least twice a year. -
