Master Alvin Sammon, who has been the guest of his grandmother at Carl for several days, has return ed home. The friends of Mrs. J. W. Mont gomery will be grieved to know that her condition is even more serious than heretofore. Mrs. Hubert Ewing has returned from Auburn, where she attended the commencement exercises of Christian College. There will be preaching service at Fairview Presbyterian church Sun day afternoon at 3:30, Rev. E. R. Anderson, of Crawfordsville, Tilling the pulpit. Miss Daisy Oakes went over to Athens Tuesday to, attend com mencement, Mr. R. Lee going Wed nesday. He was accompanied home by Misses Daisy and Gladys. Mr. Belver Power, Mrs. James Stringer, Master Genneth Stiinger, little Misses Lorraine and Lillian Stringer, of Atlanta, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Ambrose for a short while Wednesday. Smith and wife, who have been on a visit to the latter s parents at Shiloh, returned home to day. Misses Alice Scholar and Leola Richards, of Gainesville, are the at tractive house guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Holland. Mr. and Mrs. C. 0. Stubbs and Miss Laurie Belle Stubbs attended commencement at Agnes Scott, re turning home Tuesday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Thompson at tended commencement at State Nor mal, Athens. They were accompa nied hom£ by Miss Virginia Thomp son. Misses Mary Williams, Mary Pen tecost, Jeannette Cooper, Gyppie Craig, Ermine Maddox, who have been attending State Normal, are at home for the summer. Mrs. Paul oVse, of Monroe, will be the guest of Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Austin for a few days this week be fore sailing for an extensive tour of Europe on the 6th of June. Misses Dorothy Ezzard and Ruby Tanner, who have been attending school at Wesleyan, are at home for the summer, the latter having grad uated from this college last week. Sammon, to Mr. Alvin Teat'of Athens, which took place at 5 o’clock, Wednesday afternoon, May 28th. The marriage, which was a very quiet one, occurred at the Methodist parsonage in Athens and the cere mony was performed by the Rev. Wasson, pastor of the First Metho dist church of that city. Only a very few of their most in timate friends were present, Miss Alice Scholar being maid of honor and Mr. John Upchurch best man. The bride was lovely in a gown of grey flat crepe, with hat, shoes and gloves to match. After the marriage, the bride and groom were entertained at a wed ding supper at the home of the groom’s parents, who reside in Ath ens. They will make Athens their fu ture home and we regret that the bride will be taken from, our town. She is a most attractive and accom plished young lady,. having obtained her degree from the State Normal on the day of her marriage. G. A. FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH. ' The G. A. *f -the First Baptist church met with Miss Esther McGee, Friday, May 23, 1924, at 4 o’clock. Business. There were 19 present, three new members and two visitors. After the program delicious refreshments Were served. The next meeting will be with Monica Holt. LsrwrawcavffK G**r*U Fedration Wom en’s Clubs 9th Dis trict Convention The Federation of Women’s Clubs of the 9th District convened in Law renceville for their annual meeting, May 27 and 28th. The first session opened at 4:30 p. m. Tuesday with the Presidents’ Conference. The visitors were then carried to the different homes for tea, after which they, together with the local clubs, Kiwanis, Woman’s, P. T. A. and Junior clubs enjoyed a most ex cellent program at the school audi torium, consisting of a pageant giv en by the visitors and local talent, followed by welcome addresses from Mayor F. Q. Sammon, Col. N. L. Hutchins in behalf of the Kiwanis club, Mrs. G. K. Bagwell represent ing Woman’s and Junior Clubs and P. T. A. Mrs. Hubert Yow, of Martin, gave the response which was beautiful. Mr. Robert B. Troutman, State Executive Committeeman of Ameri can Legion, charmed his audience with his wonderful address. After the program a lovely recep tion given by the Kiwanis club was very much enjoyed by all. The li brary where the reception was held, was artistically decorated in the colors, pink and green, and the same color scheme was carried out in the ices, which also bore the letter K. Wednesday’s session was a very busy one and many splendid reports of things accomplished by the dif ferent clubs was stimulating to the officers and members. A beautiful luncheon given by the Woman’s Club at the Community House was the climax of the social features. The club’s colors, green and white, were carried out in ev ery detail. The Fine Arts Exhibit was one of the most attractive features and our local club won the prize of $5.00 giv en by the President of the District, Mrs. Yow. The next annual meeting will be at Clayton. Following are the officers for the coming year: Mrs. Hubert, presinet; Mrs. J. E. McElroy, Ist vice presi dent; Mrs. G. K. Bagwell, 2nd vice president; Miss Claire Anderson, secretary; Mrs. Turner, treasurer. Quite a number of distinguished visitors were present, some of them were: Mrs. Clifford Walker, wife of Gov. Walker; Mrs. Duggan, of Clay ton; Mrs. Lamar Rucker, of Athens; Mrs. Bradley, Mrs. Lena Lewis, of Monroe, and others, all of whom gave interesting and helpful talks.
