Rev. Dick Sammon, who has just
returned home from New Mexico,
filled the pulpit at the Baptist
church Sunday evening, being called

L. E. Smith, who was- sick.
Mr. and Mrs. Victor Brooks, and
son, Jimmie, have returned to their
home in Cartersville after spending
several- days here. They also. stop
ped off' in Decatur to attend, . the
graduation- -exercises of Miss Doro
thy Brooks.
The Standard Oil Company an
nounces in this issue the opening of
an up-to-date filling station on the
Wilson lot, on Croghan street. On
opening day, Saturday, June 21st,
they announce that every purchaser
of five gallons of gasoline will be
given free one gallon of motor oil.
George Bagwell, in cranking an
automobile Tuesday night, had his
arm broken, being in the yard cf his
home at the time of the accident.
Mr. Bagwell has been carrying the
mail on route four for Quinlan Com
fort, who has been ill for three
weeks, and now that the popular
substitute is likewise laid up Iver
son Russell is -on that route.
Notice oi two local bills to be in
troduced at the coming meet of the
legislature are announced in this is
sue. One provides mainly for the
term of service of mayor if the City
of Buford to be changed from one
to two years and also that -the pay
of the mayor and councilmen of
that city be increased. The other
provides that the pay of the treas
urer of Gwinnett county be in
creased from SIOO to $l5O per
month.
ENTERTAINED IN HONOR
OF MISS GEORGIA BYRD
Mrs. D. M. Byrd entertained five
tables of rook at her attractive home
Monday afternoon, ‘ complimenting
Miss Georgia Byrd, of Tulsa, Okla.,
who is spending some time here.
Tables were placed in living room,
den and porch, which were prettily*
decorated in garden flowers, from the
hostess’ own garden. Punch was
served in the dining rooin by Mfs. L.
R. Martin. The dining table had as
a central decoration a silver vase
holding brilliant sweet peas. Silver
candlesticks held pink unshaded tap
ers, while cut glass bonbon dishes
eontained pink mints.
Following the game lovely ices were
served.
Mrs. Byrd wore a model in white
crepe combined with lace. Miss Byrd,
was charming in black lace over satin. '
Mrs. Martin wore a smart toilette of,
black crepe and georgette.
Present were Mrs. W. J. Blake, of
Calhoun Falls,' S. C.; Mrs. J. R. Berry,
of Griffin; Mrs. E.' A. Shroder, of

CHAPMAN-WOOD.
A wedding of much interest to a
large circle of friends was that of
,Miss Annie Ruth Chapman and Mr.
R. Mays Wood.
The wedding occurred on last
evening, Jupe 12th, in Da
cula, Ga. Rev. Warwick performed
the ceremony in the presence of on
ly a few immediate friends and rel
atives.
The bride was lovely in a suit of
blue with accessories of gray.
Miss Chapman is the eldest daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Chapman
of this county. She is a young lady
of charming personality and has en
deared herself to a large circle of
friends. She has for some time been
connected with the schools of this
and adjoining counties.
Mr. Wood, formerly of Dacula,
Ga., now of Miami, Fla., is a prom
inent young man of much business
ability. He is now connected with
the Florida Marble and Granite Co.
of Miami.
Mr. and Mrs. Wood left by auto
mobile for Miami, Fla., where they
will make their home at 2268 N. W.
2nd Ave.

ing has averaged unusually high and

schools and preaching services has

tracting much interest and quite a

town. Much favorable comment was
heard this week concerning the
singing of the Rainbow Quartet.
They will sing again at next Sun
day services.
