Oxiord, Ga., Feb. 14, 1885. Editor Gwinnett Herald : It a,a / be of interest to some of your readers to hear from the noted little town of Oxford. It is situated in a healthy lo cality and affords many advanta ges for the diligtnt student. The inhabitants are good natured web-to-do citizens. The people of the surro tndiug country look like, I imagine, David mourning ivei the less of his son Absalom. I cannot account for the reason, unless it is because they have to butcher so many of their cows to supply the demands of the Ox , * ,r 'l people. The honest farmer | very frequently slays his old ox i that las pulled lis corn to mill for tbe last twenty years, ajd dressing die carcass, he briugs it to Oxford aid sweats it is the best beef in the world and gets six cinta per pound foi ;. twenty j year old ox. | Notwidistanding ihe epidemic of the cows and other misfor tunes whicn the students have to encounter during their collegi ate life, all seem t ' enjoy cbemj selves finely. Emory College has a wide reputation and same day ; will be one of tbe most noted coi | leges of the United States. I • prophesy for her a blight luture. According to the custom , stab lished for three years pest the ■ Senior eluss oil last Teuvsday i planted their class ires. Not withsli.i; ling ihe inclemency of the weather there was a full* ai , tendance. All seemed to enjoy J ihe occasion immensely. The Senior class has bright prospects. Their success in life depends largely upon themselves. Dr. Hay good. .x-president ol the college, who has been tbseut from our midst for some time, bus returned to his tome in this p/ace. Old Emory would make better progress if theere were more young lacues to encouiage the student through his d flicui. task of obtaining knowledge The teachers of Oxford are not defi cient in ibis art; all we need is more of these divine creatures.
