On Tuesday evening, notwith, i standing the inclemency of the J weather, a latge and appreciativi i audience assembled to listen loan I e'oquent address by Col. » J | Wiuu. Wednesday evening the school room was packed to overflowing with the youth and beauty of (he town and surrounding country to witness the exhibition | The exercises consisted of speeches, readings, recitations, dramas and charads interspersed witli excellent music. Master J. M. Mitchell of i aw reuce was the valedic‘orian. He was also awarded the gold medal offered as a prise for declamation, by the following coinmitte : Dr. Joneh, Prof Cooledge. llet- P. F Connally, P. Levely and A. A. Martin. The entertainment was well ar ranged and interested the audience to the close and reflects great credit to both scholars and teach ers. OUR NEW COURT HOUSE The Court House is about com pleted. Ti e finishing touches are being put 011 this week, Aud we do not hesitatu to say that it is one of the best constructed public buildings in the State. While it is do t as showey as some build ings, on account of its peculiar construction, yet as soon you enter its doors and take iu the plan, it will strike even the most causal observer a- admirably arruugeil for comfort anti convenience. Its wide nails, airy aud well lighted rooms, and commodious vaults, furnishes every convenience for the transaction of the business of tho county. There aie two stair ways leading to the second floor. One entering the bar, the other the lobby, On this floor, are /he rooms of the Solicetor General, Grand Tury, two special jury rooms, two consultation rooms and ar elegont court room. Comfort able seats for 312 people are pro vided outside the bar. The pe culiar shape of the bar makes i l rstner awkward, but there will be sufficient room for business. One of me most important matters couneced wi/l. all public halls is the accoustics. We are satisfied now ttiere will be no trouble or this account. A man talking in an ordinary tone can be heard distinctly in any part of the room. It is elegantly light and vtntila/ed and will be comf utable winter or j summer. The building is admired by every one who examines it and will gratify the people of the coun ty even those who weio opposed to its construction. Mr. William Norbeck, the con tractor, is the most faithful supe r entendent we ever saw, lie ttitroughly understands every de partmeut of the work and has per milled no shoddy material or botched worn to go into the build ing From the foundation 10 the root everything is first class. He employs none but competent work men and does not hesitate at ex pense or trouble i n comploying with the strict letter of his con tract. He takes a pride in his pro session aud has therefore given us an honest job even down to the smallest details. As soon as the budding is forrun ally received the County officers will move in aud Gwinnett County 1 will again have a Court House. REUNION. Bdfohd, Ga., June 12,1885. Editor Heraud Col, L. P. They have gone into the grass killing busi ness. The crops look better aud are more promising for a good yield at this time, than for a num ber of years. If they continue until matured, our farmers will have something left after the gu an o men and merchants get their part. Mrs. Oliver Hardman an old resident of Wahon county, and a lady of culture aod prcntmece, has this to say of the treatment of can cer with Swift’s .Specific : Over fifteen years ago a cancer made its appearance on my face. It was treated with piasters, and | the core came out. The place j healed up after some time, and seemingly my face was well, H ow ever, in r few years it returned agoin with more violence than ; ever. It gave me a great deal of ! pain. The former remedy seemed to do it no good- Knowing the disease to run in the family, hav- i ihg had one sister to die with can cer, I became seriously apprehene sire of rny condition. It continu ed to increase in size and virule ee I almost gave up all hope of ever being cured. The physicians ad vised the use of the knife and caus tic. This was more than I could Bear, and refused to have it oper ated upou i.i that way. All other remedies were used, but the "sn eer continued to grow worse. The pain was excruciatihg, and my life was a burden. In this extriraity my son Dr. Hardman, recommend ei ute to Zry Swift s Specific. L 1 was the last resort, but 1 was so prejudiced against the uso of pat ent medicines, and especially this ot)" tli il [ hesitated some tune. At lasi I gave my consent, not be lie v ing there was any virtue in it. The first bottle only increased the size of tue sore ami the discharge from it, and hence did not inspire me with any hope. On taking the sec l >rd bottle there were signs of impiovcment. and my faith s rengfh nefl just, m propotiog to that improvement. The spot ou tny face beg n to d< crease, as well as well as the discharge, aud hope bbgan to spring up in my heart, Could, it be I asked myself, that l was at lost to be releiveb oi this diseuse ? It lias given me so many dark hours in the past that the idea of being'veil again almost overpowered me. There was a contest between hope and fear for a long time It was a long night of weeping but joy came with the morning. There is nothing left to mark die place but a small sea", and feel that it is impossible for me to express my gratitude for this great deliverance. It is a wonderful tnediciece. Mrs. Oliver Hardman.
