GRANT 8 BAPTISM. A story is told by the friends of Gem. Grant cf the scene which took place on Zl>e Thursday morn ing when it was thought the na<- lions hero was dying. The weep ing family were giouprd around the bed where the old soldier lay wearily and painfully breathing. His thin white hands clu/ebed the oouateapane and his eyes were closed. Suddenly Dr. Douglass placed his ear to tne sick man s breast aud strode from the room hastily. An instant liter he re turned with Dr Shrady. “Nothing can save him.’ mur-j mured Dr, Douglass. "Brandy," murmured Dr. Shra dy. “He can’t swallow it would kill him.” “Til give it hypodermically." “How much?" “A barrelful, if necessary' Tears fell from Mr-. Grant s eves, and she called upon her hus band to speak to her. Then tde Rev. Dr. Newman procured a silv er bowl filled wit water aud with his fingers he spri> kled the brow of the soldier aud baptized him. A smile dawned upon the while fdatures anil the blue lips moved faintly. Then Dr. Shrady inject ed some brandy’ into each arnr There was a faint batterings o the heart, as of some bird weare of eaptivhy. and then it slowly re eumed its regular pulsations. “Doctor how is he?" asked Dr. N/wman.
