ASSOCIATION The semi annual meeting of the above named association, which includes t. oLawrenceville schools, was field at Farmers Academe church lasi Saturday. Nutwith stHiding the inclement weather a good crowd was in attendance. The meeting was called to or der by President, A. T. Pattilic, Secretary Harris having resigned. J. T. Newton was elected to fill his unexpired term, The morning session was taken up with the regular routine business. At the (‘all ot the roll the delegoies fre m ■itvon schools made ikeir verbal eg i s >f the condition of their respective schooiP. These reports were, as a n-eueral thing, very en couraging will one exception, that in nearly every school reported,- there was a lack of interest on tJ>e part of parents for the Sunday school, as lire. Johnson said there was too much go and not enough come, on the pat t of the parents. At the completion of these reports the Pres., announced a recess of one hoar and ah df for dinner, and as the crowd came out of the eliuicii a most de'igh fnl sigh! greeted their eyes for the good ladies cf the community had spiead for us, one of the nicest and most gumptious dinners we have ever saw on such an occasion- The President, Secretary and chap lam made quiie a reputation as epicures, I’he afternoon was taken up in vile introduction and discussion of new btisioe-a and after a beautiful song led by the, musical director the association adjourned t<> meet ou Saturday before ho first Sun day in May next at Duluth. OUP, SCHOOL There is no question that more immediately affects every citizen °‘ fhv town, than the success of our School. SilK-e the completion ■‘f the Railroad, there is no inter' piise that will-do moie to build up die town, bring population and business, improve i s society, m u als, and geneial prosperity than the est.vblisiu cn/ ol' a High School where the youth of the town and surrounding eountiy can obtain a good education. Such an institution will bring lo the town a rapid inctease of population, of die best class of citizens, ennance the value of real ed.u, e, and give tone and charac. ter to the society, as well as enable our citizens to educate their ebils drill at home, at half the expense it would cost to send hem abroad- Ii e know of no I ocatiou in np<« I’er Georgia, yet nm ccupied, that offers such inducements for build ing up a first class school. A glance at .lie ierritotv tributary to i awrenceville, will satisfy any thinking man, that all we need is a united tllort ou the part of ui cit.ztns to establish in our midst in institution of learning, that vili be an honor to the community and add twenty-ffive per cent, to its business, as well as furnish in ducements for substantial men to seek homes among us. And die first thir.g we need is an enlargement of our Seminary. We h ive an e.-timate made, and an addition can be made to the pres ent building, which will give an other loom fifty feet long by thir ty feet wide, at a cost of about 8050. This will give ample riom for die accommodation of from one liundied and twenty-five, to one hundred and fifty scholars. Prof. Ne-wtun, ,vho is giving em ineru satisfaction as a skillful and ompeteiu teacher, is alive to the 'be work of building up the edu cational interest of ihe cointnuni j ty, Aud he is prepared to cosop era e with us in every s/ep we i ike in 1 has direction. Witu the proper effort his school will open next year wi h one hundred ached krs, and if the board of trustees will move at oDce the nee-ess ry funds can be raised to enlarge the pre.,eut school building so as to give ample room for every scliol ini', who may come here. We need ample room and go d -choul furniture and with an en terprising tencUer, oaeked and -us tained by the town, we will be suiprised atom - own succiss. We have never seen a tow n pros per Without a good seh >ol; and w< have luvei k: owrtown with a fin class school 'hat did not pre.-per. Every citizen who Inyj cuildren to educa e, who ownk real esi rte or is engaged in any business is directly and immediately iuierest ed in this question. Jt is not only a matter of town pride and personal convenience bu/ involves the growth and prosperity o every branch of business and of popula ion. —’ LOGAMSVILLE DOINGS. Mr. TV-s.
