Miss Mary Hu : chins, and Miss ‘Pet" Hu chins, returned home from Athens last week to spend Christmas, Airs - J'orter, formerly Miss Susie Howell, died in Atlanta last Thurs day after a brief sickness, and was buried at Duluth, last Saturday- She had been ruaniei bin a short time. There came very near being a serious fire at the Railroad depot last Sunday evening. A numbei of bt lea of cotton had been left standing on the platform and some boys were playing around, when one of them, a little fellow, concluded to stick a match to a bale. J n an instant thQ flames flashed ever it and caught three more. It was discovered at cDce and Mr. Collins, with a number of persons who happened to be near, succeeded iu kmotteringouf the fire before much damage was done. On last Thursday Baliff i ang ley ied an old blind horse out in the street and invited every body to come tip, roll up, tumble up and ge.i a hue horse. Ee looked like an old cavalry horse at the end ul a bard winter, hall aud blinl. He was started at a quai ter and after exhort'Dg the crowd a long tune the officer knocked him off to a young man at $4,50 Elated with his bargain he led the horse back into Brands lot and bitched him and in a few minutes ihe horse tumbled over on a snag and wounded himself so badly that it was regarded as an act of mercy to shoot him. Mr. M. E. Ewing moved to town last week and is occupying his res idence near tne Seminary. Prof. J. T.
