FASHION NOTES.
The sunshade with the hinge
in the handle is again popular.
Waists or blouses of plaid
silk are worn with blazer or
jackets of dark cloth.
Burned orange ig a striking
color for silken accessories with
dull-colored frabrics.
For traveling gowns Belect
materials which are strong and
durable and which are not easi
ly rumpled by rough usage.
Linen suitings are again at
the fore, and will doubtless be
as popular as last season for the
perennial skirt and costumes.
Norfolk jackets are worn-
Some of them have belts that
slip underneath the plaits and
fasten with a jeweled buckle at
one side.
Velvet ribbon in a regular
lattice-work to cover a loose
vest, the lower part of sleeves,
a collar and skirt panels is quite
a French fad.
A close fitting basque waist
of velvet, baa one wide lapel
faced with cloth in a contrast
ing color. The belt, collar and
culls arc of the light cloth.
Semi-transpaient lawn or
linen promises to tie a great fa
vorite for dressy costumes, as
they admit of trimming being
used with great effect.
Among the latest color com
binations are orange and light
tan, mauve and mastic, blue
and orange, and brown or gold
en tun with a very pinkish lav
ender.
For railway travel a simple
ulster or dust coat of alpaca or
silk, in a design of pinhead
pouts, is the most serviceable
and stylish of all garments.
In some hats only the crowns
show the straw, the stiff being
covered so thickly with Rower
petals that tin under framo
work of tho bat cannot be seen
at all.
An Eton jacket lias long
points sloping back a little from
the middle of the front. The
revers meet over the bust where
tliere is a loose scarf of soflsilk
ied in a knot.
Colored lawn frilling are ap
plied to white dresses, and Row
er-printed lawn is used for por
tions of the bodice un.l sleeves
and blouse waists made of the
same color as t lie Roui.ces ut
the bottom of the skirt.
Hi pa us Tahuh-a cure nausea.
FARM AND GARDEN NOTES
Of course it is better to half hi
a few chicks late even of ti e
larger breeds, but they will not!
pay as layers.
For your own table it pa vs Du
hatch chieks from February t"
November, but the number
should lie limited.
Thorough culture saves mois
ture and invigorates the plant,
rendering it less susceptible to
the attacks of insects and'
fungi.
Fifty hens on a farm, proper-,
ly handled, will pay better tin .
year through than L’Ol) in thej
same place of roost. Duality!
rather than quantity should be
the rule.
Cutting off large limbs is best
done by first sawing a little on
the under side, so that when
the limb falls it* will not split
the wood nor peel the* bark
d iwn 1 lie trunk.
Low-headed t>e-*s will bear
somewhat sooner than high-;
headed ones, for they sooner!
reach the proper height ofi
trunk and the heads are sooner
developed to support a full crop
of fruit.
One of the most effective
means of increasing the profits
of gardening and truck farming
is to so arrange the planting
that horse power may be util
ized in preparing, planting and
cultivating.
Some farmers think that
money alone should tie counted
to determine whether a tiling
pays or not. This is great mis
take. Fruit pays even if wo do
not sell a dollar’s worth. It,
keeps down doctor bills in the '
family.
