Air-Line Express. — We call the
attention of citizens generally to the
advertisement of Messrs. 11. 11. Witt
<fe Co., who have established an ex
yMess line on the Atlanta and Ricli-
Railroad. It is a
matter of grwat convenience to our
people who desire\ to trade with
Atlanta, or who are Jiaving goods
shipped over that road. - They trans
fer all freight from otheV\road*, free
of charge, and collect all freqJJkt from
place shipped from to depot where
delivered. You may order through
them to any house in Atlanta, and
they will call for your packages, and
deliver them at depot, free of extra
charge. Their express charges are
reasonable.
- m
Globe Hotel. — William J. Bot'n,
the popular proprietor of this hotel,
offers his house for sale or rent.—
We regret that he has determined to
engage in other business. Every vil
lage needs just such a hotel as he
has kept since he has been in charge
of it; and every body “can’t keep a
hotel.’’ We know of no better
opening to make money than running
this lie use. There is a large number
of regular boarders besides trans ent
custom. During this summer lie
has entertained several families from
a distance, and been compelled for
want of room, although the house is
large, to turn off many applicants
who desired to spend the summer
here. If you want to engage in the
hotel business, don't miss this oppor
tunity. Read the adveitisinent. He
also offers some fine land near Buford,
for sale.
EW Mr. J. B. Coffee lias sent ns
some cornfield peas which commence
bearing first of June, and bear on till
frost. They are a small purple, or
blue pen, very prolific, and are supe- j
rior to any pea we know of for the
table. Friend Coffee will please ac
eept our acknowledgements.
Fink Tkaches. — We return our
thanks to Mr. A. W. Cole for a has [
ket of fine peaches. They were the j
finest flavored peaches we have seen
this year. There is no reason why
fruit raising cannot be made profita
ble along the line of the railroads.

Sunday-School Exhibition.
Mr. Editor: —Fur the benefit of
those of your readers who were
deprived of the privilege of at
tending the celebration of the
DeKalb county Sunday-school As
sociation, which took place at
Stone Mountain, on last Friday.
I will g-ive voti a brief account Of
this—to your correspondent—
novel and interesting occasion.
The morning was cloudy, but
notwithstanding the unpr.ipitious
appearance of the weather, large
crowds of men, women and chil
dren beg-an to arrive from every
direction. Soon the trains of cars
arrived, teaming with their living
freight of Sunday school children,
accompanied by their parents and
friends, with their badges flutter
ing and their banners streaming.
A large arbor had been construc
ted in the grove opposite the
‘Rig Hotel,” where scats were
prepared sufficient for the accom
modation of the schools and a
large part of the crowd.
The exercises which were very in
teresting, and passed off with great
eclat, consisted of the reading of
the Scriptures, by Rev. W. H.
Strickland; prayer, by Rev. W.
Clarke; song, by all the schools;
songs anil speeches by each school,
reading of tho reports and statis
tics by the Secretary, the installa
tion of the officers for another
year, the addresses of Generals
John B. Gordon and A. H. Col
quitt, and last, but not least, the
collation spread by the schools.
The singing, which was lead by
that affable gentleman and public
spirit citiz.cn, Dr. W. Bond, of
Liqiionia, was excellent. Without
wishing to appear invidious, where
all <jlid so well, your correspon
dent is forced to admit that the
Litlyonia Union Sunday school is
entitled to the palm in singing.
It (should however, look well to
its/laurels, as the Stone Mountain
a/iid Decatur schools are not far
/in its wake.
Right here, Mr. Editor, permit
me to ask what more phasing and
thrilling scene can be witnessed
than that of hundreds of bright*
eyed cliildien making the woods,
bills and mountains to resound
with their beauli ul songs? If
Sunday-schools accomplish no oth
er good than that of inciting and
cultivating in the young a taste
for singing, they certainly ought
to he fostered and encouraged.
Of the addresses of Generals
Gordon and Colquitt, suffice it to
say that they were equal to the
men and the occasion. Gen Gor
don’s theme, which was “Love to
God and love to man, ’ was ably
and eloquently handled. He dis
coursed touchingly of the duty
and beauties of charity, and of
the evil and sinfulness of its oppo
site—bigotry. 'Hie address riveted
the attention of the large audi
ence, was evidently very favorably
received by it, and no doubt its
forcible truths will bear good
fruits in the future.
The speech of Gen. Colquit, which
closed Ihe exercises of the day, and
was entirely extemporaneous, was
appropriate, in good taste, and left
a pleasing effect upon the audience.
Of the number of schools in actual
attendance, your correspondent is
not prepared to speak accurately
something near twenty-five.
From the reports, as read by the
Secretary, we learne i that there are
about two thousand children in the
schools belonging to the association,
and five thousand volumes in the li
braries. Thisjspeaks well of a coun
ty small in extent of territory and
not very populous, and entitle* it to
las called the banner county in
the Slate, in the Sundy school
cause. In fact, 1 believe it is the on
ly county in the State which has a
regnlar association or confederation
,of schools, with a constitution and
j officers.
Notwithstanding the large number
i of people present, no accident or dis-
I mrbance of any kind occurred to
i mar the interest of the occasion.—
Late in the evening a few men be
i came intoxicated, and inclined to be
a little boisterous, but they were im
, mediately hurried to the calaboose
! by the efficient police.
Take it all together the celebration
was a great success. A our corres
pondent enjoyed it finely, and bad
the pleasure of many kind and hearty
greetings from friends, some of
- whom he had not met for rears.
The next anniversary is to be held
j at Decatur.
