As. ter routine business was transacted they acted on several new proposi~l‘ tions. Among the things they did 'was to set aside about 65 acres of lard for a park. It is one of the finest natural parks that can be found and it is only a ten minutes walk from tke public square. It would cost some of our northern «cities over SIOO.OOO for such a park Nothing to good for Homeland and at the end they done somsthing that caused the stockholders to Bmile. W. H. Clay and F. A. Speeial council meeting was held Tuesday evening to werk on the town ordinances. Little Margaret Car olyn Died Sunday - On Sunday May 16, 1909 3t noon the Death Angel visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. 7. L. Pickren and took therefrom little Margaret Car olyn who had been sick for more than a month, This little girl was the youngest member of the femily and Was one year and eight months of age. She was the wellspring of joy in he househoid, aad was loved ’so dearly, RBut this tencer plant has been plucked from this home by the Saviour who doeth all things well, and may the afflicted family trust in Him and realize that it is safe in the arms of Jesus, and that it is only waiting there in that land that is fairer than day, which shall be reached by every onme that loveth the Saviour, in the sweet bye and bye. Many sorrowing and sympathizing friends were present at the residence to offer all possible help and support and a large audience assembled at the cemetery to witness the funeral services, all which indicated their warm affection for the dear departed liitle girl, as well as the most pro tound respect and sorrow for the afflicted family. The funeral took place on Monday morning at the Bachlott cemetery, conducted by Rev. I. R. Kelly, pastor of the Methodist church, ! Folkston School | \ Commencement. | . e The Folkston Public School closed last Thursday evening with Com mencement exercises. The attend ance was large, People came from many miles away, and the evening was enjoyed by al. ' The exercises began at 7:30 o’- clock and was good and very inter esting. The orations by the six girls. who completed the commeon school course wer: tull of deep thought and very interesting to ewv eryone. They displayed much nat ural ability as well as careful train ing and practice. : Miss Pearl Joiner, in her oration, “The Aim of Life” gave some very pretty thoughts, and was very inter esting. ? “Daty”; by Miss Govie Jones was worth the careful attention of every one. She declared the true mean ing of duty, and did well. | ‘‘Sidney Lanier”, by Miss Laura Gowen and “Maidenhood”, by Miss Aucrey Scott, were good and very interesting. “Victories of Labor", by Miss Lily Joiner was good. She declar ed that labor was honor, and that our greatest men came from those ‘who labored, and explaimed fully the victories of labor, | Miss Lois Mattox in her oration, “Beauties of Life”, told what life really is, and was very interesting.. At 8:15 o’clock Prof. VanVoor his wtroduced Prof. E. A. Pound, of Waycross, who delivered the class address, his subject being “‘ldeals and Aspirations” He was was enjoyed by everyone. The certificates were delivered by Prof, Pound. After the delivery of the certificates Prof. Pound said he wished for the time to talk an hour on education but having to leave on the ¢:3O train could not. He rsaid that there was need of a great awak. ening along the line of education the urgent necessity of preparing the bays and girls of the present day to !..co,pc with circumstances which have .n.ever before existed. Folkston School Gives Picnic. - The Folkston Public School clos ed last Thursday and a school pic nic was held Friday at Camp Pink ney on the St. Mary’s river. It was 2 beautiful day and the pupils and several patrons were all present for a good time. Many teams were nsed and by 10 o’clock all were at the picnic grounds. There were a. bont 150 present. It was regretted very much by everyone that Mrs. C, ‘W, Waughtel, one of the teachers, tould not be present, but the rest of the teachers were there endeavoring ' make the day pleasant for every Eugxild. . The forenoon was spant in boat ;ridinq, there being many boats at the bluff At noon dinner was g-s;pread which had peen prepared by tne good ladies. All had plenty to cat. There were many people present and a good service was enjoyed by all, the sermon being preached by the Presiding Elder, Bro. Lungston . Dinner was had on the ground,’ NOTICE. .
