G, L. Wainwright, Cditor,
Let the young man about town |
out of a job try a year on the farm.
Plowing will give him a new constitu
tion, take the kinks ont of his head,
the frog out of his throat, the gas
off .his stomach, the weariness out
of his legs, the corns off his toes,
and give him a geod appetite, and
_ henest living and a sight of heaven,
The man who drinks the red, red
/ winecan never glue his iips to mine,
.is one plank of the platform of an
organization being formed by several
* young ladies. We would suggest as
the next plank the following: ‘“The
- ~man who quaffs the foaming beer,
shall never call me his own dear.”
And then: ““The chap who takes
his whisky straight, need never at
,my nome stay late ”’
" The best money-maker on the
farm 18 tne hen. She turns grass
_ into greenbacks, grain into gold, and
from the sand and gravel she cows
silver. There is nothing else on the
place ta compare with her. The
* ‘wattle aad norges are heavy consum
er, and to get their value we wmust
part with them; bui notso with ‘he
hen. In her small way she is a gold
mine on the face of the earth; a mill
that grinds that which other over
look or refuse.
- The non-adverusing merchant
goeth forth to his wir av wne i
of the sun, and lo! no man inter
tereth, He standeth around all day,
tike unto a bottle of castor vil, and
the people with the shekels come
~ motunto his shanty. Headver:iseth
- mot his wares and his face is forgot
-len on the face of the earth. Who
~ hath dried appies? Who nath fly
- spoiled ginghams? Who hath cal
-Icoes made ‘‘befo’ de wah?” who
hath stale baking powder without
‘end? He that knoweth not the way
to the printer.
Go where you will you will find
people, both men and women, who
are always waiting for something to
turn up to better their condition 1n
life, Yet this class ot pzople are
the last one to try #nd turn some
thin up that will be a benefit to them
in any way, but still wait from day
to day. If you want something to
tarn up, get a move on you, getont,
hustle and see if you canmot find
- something you can turn up to your
advantage. There are plenty of
chances for every onme if they are
souht after, but they will not come
* 10 you if you do not hunt them up.
A good joke on am editor who
~ ‘went one evening to report a party
at a hom recently blessed with a
‘baby. He met his host at the door,
- and after the usual saluation he ask
ed after the baby's heaith, The
‘lady who was quite deaf, and suffer
ring with the grippe. though he was
rasking after her cold, and answered
that although she usually had one
- every winter, this was the worst one
she ever had; 1t kept her awake at
- might a good deal, then noticing that
~ the newspaper man was getting
nervous she said she could tell by
his looks that he was going to have
. one just like hers, and asked him to

~ Folkston and the Country. l
We are glad that the old pre-‘
judice idea that usually -xists bet
ween town aud countv is !astf
disappearing in old Charlton. |
Our town people and the country
people are beginning to understand
each other better and learn that
our interssts are mutual for the
more prosperous our town, the
better market for the country
produce etc. :
Aleo we can better build a good
citizenship both in the country
and in the town by being social
and generous.
Nothing can build up the county
faster than by a unanimous free
hearted pull, e'ways leiving out
self, and doing the thing free from
prjudice.
Our Town,
We'invite the citizens of the suc
rounding colintry to come to our
town to do their trading, or as a
place ot residence, because we know
you will be delighted with its sur.
rouadings, with its people, with its
laws and clean streets, delighted
‘with its scheols 'Prfvileges and with
Its good moral elements thar. vxists
and is largely sustained 'wy the peo
le. You will. find ¥ta pleasant
place i which'to live, almost devoid
of the evil influences vsually exist
ing in towns. Its people are charit
able, law-abiding. genial, clever and
accommodating. You will also find
it a cheap place in whick to live.
Sharp competition in all branches
of trade has su reduced vrices that
everything in the merchantile line
can be had at tne very lowest prices
and in view of which this town has
become a grea: trading mart of the
surrounding country.
The intersst of a town or city and
the community are jdentical. That
which benefits one is certain to favor
the other. Often thore is an unreas.
onable antagorism in the farming
community against their own town.
From some inexplainable reason
they consider it their duty to oppose
every movement that has for irg
object the forwarding ot its interests
and deprecivte its importapce in
every conceivable manner. Give
us your trade-—help us to build up
our town and you will increase the
value of land in our community,
