*Tis the honest grip of comradeship
Make« a fellow take heart again:
*Tis the word of cheer
From a friend sincere.
Makes him feel Jife’s not in.vain.
When the way 18 dark
And the lackless barque
Is drifting from safety’s strabd,
Why, God bless the man
Ard the woman who then
Holds to us a heiping hand.
When vou're out of Juck
And you’re out of pluck
And the fight don’t seem worth whi'e
What will give your heart
Todo your part?
Why, a handclasp and a smile;
- So when zll is back
And we've lost track
I'l a world we can’t understand,
Then God bless the friend
Who is there to lend
A smile and a helping hand.
Gentle reader, you who owe us
for this paper you are reading, as
~well as for several of its ancestors:
Did you ever see an editor’s pocketa
book? Well, it is just as fallible
and prone to emptiness as those of
other common mortals. ‘lhe news
“paper business hasn’t yet been
brought to that degree of perfection
“that it can be run without expense,
and until that 18 sneccssfully done
~we sha'l be under the painful necess
ity of asking you fora little cash,
now and then, especially now, We
have been patient— in gome cases
longesufferinge—knowing that your
pocketbouk were about as lean and
lank as our own. But now, the
harvest is past and some of you have
sold your hogs. When the Lig,
round dolldrs begin to jingle in your
breeches pockets, please remember
that vacuum in the editorial purse,
Charlton County’s Sugar Cane
We have just received from Mr,
M. Altnan, one of our best farmers
a stalk of sugar cane that measures
from up to up 16 feet and of t 8 fi
is matured. It ig 6 inches in circum
ference and weighs 8 lbs 10 ounces
What section can beat us?

We are now on record as having
some of the best roads inthe State,
and as time rolls on we continue to
impreve our romfs, and soon it will
be that all of our publie roads will
be 1n first class condition, We are
glad that money speng for good
roads is an investment,
We want to mention ou* road
that is being built from the Pierce ‘
county line to tne Florida lne
which will within two monthg be
completed. This road is now with
in four miles of Folkston, and is in
first class condition. The bridges
are built of solid tinfber— the best
to be found. All creeks are so|
graded that they will stand the l;'ighl
waters. The flats are raised with;
ditches on each side that will carry
the water away, preventing a wctf
road. Culberts are placed at al| |
necessary places. Every stump, :
100 t, and palmetto has been taken |
irom the right of way before grad-!
iug, and theswhole road is free trom
ali snch that preveats a first cluss'
road,
We need ‘o call attention to the
fact icu eof our citizens are

should not be doae, and if the mar
1s interested in good roads he should
push the movment, and not hinder
it. We noiice too that in placeg
where Idg teams have been on the
road that by reckless driving have
caused ugly places. The county
commissioners should gee that the
log men rcpair such places that is
caused by carelesgness.
The work of ourroads is under
the management of T. L. Pickren,
who is using every effort to push
the movement, and build such roads
hat arc a credit to the county.

nervous troubles. Then ‘there
is a large class of disorders
which arise from a weakness of
the nerves of an organ or part,
as weak lungs, heart, stomach,
kidney, bladder, eyes, etc.
Dyspepsia and indigestion are
usually the result of nervous
