SOUTHEASTERN GEORGIA,
By W. H. Clay, Homeland, Ga.
The progpects of Georgia have never
heen so brilliant a 8 at the present time,
und as the months go by, the prospects
grow brighter, and the advantages more
numerous
Can the human mind gragp the won
derful advantages that Georgia will offer
to the multitudes of people who will
flock here for homes, for business, and
epeculation, when the Punama canal is
opened for uctual business 2 Through
Flonda and Georgia lies the pathway of
a new and mighty commerce The geo
graphical position of these two states
compele it, and whether we disbelieve
the claim or remain indifferent to it, the
wheels of progress and commerce will
rush through our state in the very near
future, [t Is destiny
The opening of the Panama Canal will
change trade routes and the great rail
roads of the country are striving to se
cure the most advantageous terminals
for the handling ot the immense business
which they know will be theirs, The two
greatest States, Georgia and Florida,
will gather in a rich harvest Its natural
resources in xoil will find rupid and tre
mendous developments.
Its incompurable, all the year round
elimate is becoming more apprecinted
and enjoved, Georgia is an open air
Sanitarium The balmy atmosphere be:
ing a renewed reservoir of health and
strength for the young as well as the old
No other state in the Union offers such
a varietv of delicious fresh products
from the orchards and gardens through
out the year. ’
The tens of thousands of tourists who
have been coming into this purt of the
south year after year, and bringing, and
will continue tobring untold thousands
every year, some to engage in business,
some to purchase land and build perma
nent homes, and produce thousands of
dollars in value every year from the soil,
Such things are not idle dreaming—t hey
ure sure to come, They cannot be pre
vented from coming Georgia is heunm-l
ing a magnet to Europe, and the needle
is pointing to this state. It is attracted
here, and it will be but a few months
ere the needle remains stationary over
our Banner State.
Thousands of desirable homeseekers
who have heretofore been directed to
the West, will flock to this common
wealth from the Anglo-Saxon ecountries
of Europe, as well as from our Northern
and Eastern States, and help advance
the interests of Georgia to the highest
point of prosperity.
We repeal again, it cannot be pre
wented ILis Destiny. Georgia wili re
ceive the multitudes, but what particu
lar section will retain them depends up
on the welcome and encouragement ac
corded them One thingis peculiar and
nlmost incontrovertible: Ouce n person
lives in the south, ne other locality sat
-Isfies ‘Once a Southerner, alwayvs a
Southerner,” and whether he is a native
or settler, who has made his home here,
his red blood mounts high and his heart
beats time to dear old Dixieland. The
opportunities attract and bring them
here, but the balmy atmosphere and in
comparable elimate holds them, When
one has spent two or three years here,
hie is loth to depart, He is content to
end his days in the land where every day
is summer, and where the Mocking birds
Fing all the day long, and where the
flowers never die.

South Entering New Era of Agricul
tural Production, Declares
H. G. Hastings.
Atlanta, Ga.—(Special.)-~That the
Boys' Corn Club movement means a
'great deal more to the South than
the average citizen has ever dreamed,
ifs the conclusion presented in an in
teresting interview by H. G. Hastings
of Atlanta, chairman of the agricul
tural committee of the Atlanta Cham.
ber of Commerce and manager of the
Georgla State Corn Show, which 1s
‘ presented annually in the state cap!-
tol bullding.
“We are facing,” says Mr, Hastings,
“an eru of agricultural production such
a 8 the world bas never before wit
nessed. Every year since the first
corn club was organized, the move
ment has seen more than remarkable
growth. One year's record has be
come insigniticant when that of the
next year doubled it; and by that, !
mean that many more boys have gone
into the work aand have vastly in.
creased results not only by their ewn
efforts, but through inspiration to fa
thers, brothers and neighbors untfl
millions of dollars have already been
added to corn production in the Soutn,
“And yet thig is but a forecast of
what 18 to come. There are now be
ing organized as an outgrowth of the
corn club work, Three and Four-Crop
Clubs. The boys will plant oats and
cowpeas on their former corn acre,
thus diversifying their crops and re.
newing the soll, while a new acre will
be taken for corn cultivation. In sowme
sections cotton has been added to the
list, on a third acre, and the »our-
Crop Club boys have already gene to
work.
“Another outgrowth of the 'corn club
i¢ the Pig Club. Southern boys have
learned the truth of the story of the
unsuccessful farmer who sent to a
more prosperous neighbor to buy a
ghoat. The nelghbor sold him the
shoat, but with it presented him a
sack of corn. ‘You have got the
shoat under your arm,’ he told the
farmer, ‘but I want you to remember
that the hog ils In the sack.,”
