Wool Sule Tuesday
Tuesday was the day for the
for the annual wool sale for
Charlton county and the ownerg
of sheep had their bank account
replenishsd by the price received.
Between six and seven thousand
pounds were sold bringing a price
of 35 cents per pound.
D. Kirkland of Savannah was
the highest bidder for the wool.

Chicken Suprer
The Judior Auxiliary of the
Presbyterian church will give a
chicken supper on Mrs. Purdom’s
lawn at the Dixie Restaurant on
Tuesday night, August 16, begin
ning at 7:30 o’clock. }
- Miss Mayme Askew has return
ed from Athens where she spent
a pleasant and profitable summer
at the Teachers’ Training school
preparing for the next year’s
work. Miss Askew’s work as a
teacher has been successful.
Mr. and Mrs. Willis Askew and
baby Joyce, and Newton Askew
left last Wednesday] night for
Chipley, Ga., where they visited
relatives and friends, They re
turned home Monday accompan
ied by Miss Mayme Askew,

Miss Irenc Robinson arrived
home last Friday evening. She
attended Summer school at Mil
ledgeville. Miss Dorothy Thax
ton of Milledgeville came home
with her. They spent last week
in Camilla, (ia.
Mr. A L. Barbour came to our
little city several days ago and
after looking around a few days,
bouget a home here, because his
family had rath=r live in Folkstou
than any place. He wired Mrs.
Barbour to ‘prepare to make
Folkston her future home.” We
gladly welcome them back.

Dr. Frank Folks of
Waycross Died Friday
Funeral services were held
' Monday morning at 11 o’clock for
ll‘-r. Frank C. Folks, retired physi
cian and civie leader, who died at
his home here late Friday night,
following a long period of illness,
- The services, held at the Folks
home on Mary street, were an im
pressive tribute to the life of the
decessed. It was one of the most
largely attended fuuerals held in
Waycross in many years, many
friends from various sections of!
Georgia gathering here to pay a
final tribut>= to a man who has
served the medical profession, his
community and his state with
distinction.

The deceased is survived by‘
three sons, Dr. W. M. Folks of
Waycross, Fleming Folks of Way
cross and Robert L. Foiks of
Waycross, also twe daughters, Mrs
P. K. Gross of Akron, Ouio, and
Miss Louise Folks of Waycross.—

old plant until Thursday after
noon, the machinery at the new
power house was set in motion
and a service we have reason to
be proud of put in operation. The
first ice manufactured in Folks:
ton will be out Friday.
The Charlton County Power

complete, and while Ihere have
been delays, the servic: is at last

-Dr, Mell L. Duggan of Clayton
State suporvisor of rural Schools,
has been named by Governcr
Hardman as state superintendent
of schonls to succeed the late Mr,
Land and immed ately took the
oath of office. He will serve
fthrough June, 1929, :
Dr. Duggan, who is wide'y
known throughout the State, bas
been with the Georgia educational
department for about sixteen
years, and during Mr. Land’s last
illness he filled the post of State
superintendent,
He first became connected with
the department when he, with Mr»
Land and Celeste Parrish, wes
namea state supervisor by Dr, M.
L. Brittain, the then state super
intendent. Prior {o that time he
had been county superintendent
of Hancock county for eighteen
years, He has served as secretary
of the county school superinten
dent’s sssociation for thirty-three
vears.
Dr. Duggan was graduated from
Mercer university in the class of
1877 and that institution later con
ferred upon bim the honorary de
gree of doctor of pedagogy. He
[also received post-graduate train
ing at Harvard university.—Geeor
