Tree Planting and Thinning Bulletins.
Forest landowners, and civie
organizetions will be interested in
two new bulletins recently issued
by the Georgia Forest Service.
These are Forest Thinnings by
Alfred Akerman and Highway
Shade Tree Planting by Eitel
Bauer.
One of the greatest problems
which con{ronts the landowner in
South Georgia is what to do with
the dense stands of young growth
which come in when forest fires
are kept out. If they are not thin
ned the stand will be slowed down
in the rate of growth. If thinned
too rapidly the remaining trees
will become limbly, producing low‘
priced, knotty lumber. The whole‘
problem is treated in a concise

the roll call by telling the club
what they had done in their club
work during the month. There
being no farther business to come

Birmingham Cattle Sold
The cattle shipped from Charl
ton county and held up at Birm
ingham, Ala,, by the discovery of
ticks on a few heads of them
were sold on last Thursday.
There seem to be some question
at first asto the ticks being fever
ticks, tut as the neighborhood
from which they were purchased
was under suspicion, a dipping
was called for on last Tuesday.
Ticks were discovered on some
five or six head.
From ‘this discovery, dippings
have been called for on adjoining
districts, and if it is discovered
that they have iafected other dis
rict will be put back to dipping,
tand this work will continue until
the infected districts are all dis
covered and secured from further
infection of ticks.
The many cattle shipped from
here, have cut down the large
number into smaller quanities that
we have ever had here before ‘
The stock men are wondered
what they will do with cattle al
ready purchased and without
range to feed vpen.
We hope that a few aippings
will suffice to regain control of
the tick spread and place us back
on the free list.

Shade tree planting is sorely

upon the adhearance of the Solid
