Died.
! Captain George C Albaugh
| passed away at 9 o’clock p m
'.June 2d, 1908. He had been in
i declining health for more than a
i year, and for the last four
months has been paralyzed, be
j ! speechless, ing helpless though and most retaining of the time his
mental faculties up to the last,
recognizing and greeting his
friends with a smile.
He displayed that Christian
1 spirit by not complaining in the
least of his condition but trusted
implicitly and with child like
| faith in his Maker to lead him
safely through the valley of the
shadow of death to that home
eternal in the heavens.
For the last 12 years he made
his home with son-in-law and
daughters, Mr and Mrs T W
Fulwood and Miss Ida Albaugh
near Fort Valley.
He was 82 years of age Nov 29,
1907, and was a member of the
the Presbyterian church from
early manhood.
A good man has gone to his
reward.

The members of Fort Valley
Chapter U D C desire to express
their heartfelt thanks and appre¬
ciation for the lovely way in
which they were entertained by
the Perry Daughters.
The unveiling of the Confeder
ate monument was a notable
event. The speakers wera earn¬
est and eloquent, and the grace¬
ful, charming manner in which
Mrs Holtzclaw presented the
monument seemed like an inspi¬
ration. Even the stores ha4
windows and doors decorated in
red and -white, and the platform
around the monument was a tri
umph of artistic decoration.
The Fort Valley people will
long remember the cordiality and
welcome extended them in every
way. The enthusiastic cheers
for Perry, amid the waving of
fans and handkerchiefs, as the
train pulled out for Fort Valley,
plainly indicated the appreciation
of the visitors who had been so
royally entertained.

The Y. M. B. C. Enter¬
tains With Barbecue
The Young Men’s Bibl6
oj the Fort Valley Baptist
day school entertained last
day evening with a barbecue in
the spacious grove of Mr Frank
W it holt.
The event was one of much sftic
cess and social enjoyment, uc
companied with the usual barbe¬
cue delicacies, and unanimously
agreed to be the most popular ac
casion of its kind in the history
ones in Fort Valley.
There was much interest and
enthusiasm displayed on account
of the nature of the entertain¬
ment, which was the fulfillment,
of a contest entered into by the
members of tbe ’i M B C, which
may be explained:
Some weeks ago, at the sugges¬
tion of Rev J M Long, teacher,
the class agreed to unite in efforts
and increase the membership to
thirty in thirty days, the enroll
me nt at the time being about 15.
He further suggested that in
order that we carry out the plan
in good faith the class enter into
a contest, one side the Reds the
other the Blues and see which
would make the better showing
by bringing in new members.
At the expiration of the contest
the winning side would be enter¬
tained by the losers, a program
to be arranged by the .winners
calling for contributions from
the losers in the capacity of
speeches and songs.
We are glad to say that the
contest proved a success and con¬
gratulate the Blues as winners,
for at the end of thethirty days
the class enrollment reached-four
ty, one of the best representa¬
tive body of young men in the
city. Quite a unique program
was arranged, beginning at eight
o’clock. The crowd sang two
songs which gave vent to their
feeling, and then the delicious
meats were enjoyed lor a course
of 40 minutes, after which a
smoker was on and a free for all
chat began. About 9 o’clock
Rev. Long called the crowd to
order and stated that the remain¬
der of the program would be car¬
ried out. Mr. Louie Taylor was
re quested to explain how it was
that the Blues were successful,
and Mr Johnie Houser to respond
explaining how the Reds failed.
Both explanations were enjoyed
and met with applause. Rev.
Long gave a short talk in interest
of the Bible Class and called up
on Mr. A. J. Evans for other ex
pressions. Mr Evans gave a very
interesting talk and complimen¬
ted the class highly, He stated
that the classroom was entirely
too small and thought it a good
idea to enlarge it so that the en¬
rollment could be comfortably
managed, His suggestion met
with popular approval and a col
j , leetion ,. wa,s taken , , for „ the ,, pui*r •
! of enlarging same. To the sur-
1 prise and satisfaction of all the
i ainount collected and promised
j amounted to $180 with lair pros
pect of it reaching $29). The
j next feature of the program was
a duet by Birch Norton and Lyn
| wood Gray which was enjoyed
! very much, A fter this the crowd
sang songs and spent the rem ain
der of the (‘veiling most pleasant
Unsolicited suggestions on
the part of ma >nv present indica
ted a repetition of the occasion
as it tends to raise the social
standard and perpetuate a spirit
of congeniality among the young
men especially of Fort Valley.
On behalf of the Young Men’s
Bible Class a cordial invitation
invitation is extended to all to
come and join or visit them, and
we feel sure that it will proye
most interesting as well as highly
beneficial to those present, and
we wish to impress upon all that
a most hearty welcome awaits
them.
